Tools and Hardware Reviews of Racor Pro PLB-2R Two-Bike Gravity Freestanding Bike StandCustomer Review: Racor Gravity Freestanding bike stand PLB2 Summary: 3 Stars
Eh. It's OK for the money.
They don't tell you that they recommend screwing the rack to a wall stud until you read the directions. That's why they put a 1/4 inch hole thru the frame on top. So hence, it's not truely free standind. But it will work without the screw.
If you really want a true free standing, you'll have to pay a little more like the Performance Bike Aloft, which has a double frame. Which is what I use to store my bikes at home.
The Racor I use to store my bikes in a storage facility. If it did happen to fall, it would only hit other storage boxes.
But in all honesty, I didn't screw the frame to a stud, and I don't think it will fall.
Like I said, for the price, and Amazon's free shipping, it was worth it.
Customer Review: Solid bike rack Summary: 5 Stars
This is a simple solution to an irritating storage problem. It gets two bikes off the ground with ease. Assembly is a piece of cake -- the parts just lock together. And the weight of the bikes stabilizes the unit to prevent the rack from coming apart or tipping over. I did use the optional screw to anchor the top of the rack into a stud. Some other reviewers have expressed concerns over the size of the screw. The screw is not designed to support the weight of the bikes. It just prevents the top portion of the rack from lifting up out of the base while adding a little extra stability. I do wish there were some method to prevent the handlebars from turning so the front tires don't scuff the wall. Still, I am extremely pleased overall.
Customer Review: Racor Gravity bike rack Summary: 5 Stars
This bike rack is pure genius! It fit together with no tools, so simply that I didn't even need directions. Look at the picture on the box and put the pieces together so they look like the picture and your done. Takes all of 5 minutes. I did not attach it to the wall in any way.
I've got a 27lb Cannodale Rush on the top and a 30lb Cannondale Uber V on the bottom. The arms adjust to fit these vastly different frame shapes and hold each bike level and stable.
I couldn't be happier, but I do have one suggestion for Racor: If you made accessory hangers that fit in the slots where the arms go and consisted of short horizontal poles to hang helmets, hydration packs, and shoes from, I would be first in line for them!
Customer Review: Buyer Beware Summary: 1 Stars
Buyer Beware! This rack is not as advertised.
To start, the box that the rack came in was so disheveled it looked like someone had already opened it. Additionally, the pieces themselves were dirty and had scratches all over. Assembly of the rack was easy, however the pieces of the vertical post do not lock into place tightly which results in complete instability. The top section of the vertical post leans away from the wall ~1/2 foot instead of resting against the wall. When I placed a bike in the top rack, the whole thing almost came crashing down because of the severity of the lean.
I do not recommend this product which is unfortunate because I was really looking forward to it.
Customer Review: Practical space saver for garage Summary: 3 Stars
I just received this bike stand, and putting it together was super easy requiring no tools. Note that it requires at least one bike on the stand to be able to stand upright, otherwise it falls backwards (they could have extended the U-shaped base just a tad longer towards the rear.)
Unfortunately, one of the arm brackets had a faulty weld that held the hook holding the bike resulting in the arm hook detaching off the arm bracket. Looking at the design of the arm hook assembly, I'd warn anyone to be careful when attempting to twist the hook to a different angle - first loosen the Philips screw under the rubber cover.
I'm hoping I can return just the arm bracket without having to ship the entire package back.
