Tools and Hardware Reviews of Racor Pro PSB-2L Double Folding Bike RackCustomer Review: Only for road bikes and Came rusted Summary: 2 Stars
First, this is -- as other reviewers have stated -- only for road bikes. Mountain, commuter, cruiser or hybrid bikes will not fit on this rack. The same is true for women's frames. Since these frame types represent the majority of bikes currently in the market, I think this is a serious drawback of this product and one that should be indicated prominently in the product description, if not the Product Title (i.e. it should be called a "Folding Double Road Bike Rack".
I was also somewhat disappointed by the condition of the item. The hinge was rusty. I don't know if that impairs the strength of the rack, but it is not okay in a newly purchased product, and it did make the rack squeak when I folded it up and down. Also, two of the screws arrived stripped. Still I might have simply returned it for an exchange, if only our bikes had fit on it.
Customer Review: rack is good for lighter bicycles Summary: 2 Stars
This is not a safe design. I installed it and here are my comments.
PROS:
* easy installation
* lightweight
* space saving
CONS:
* not safe for heavy bikes. the triangle piece that hold the bike up is not continuous (not one piece). it hooks to the sides of the bike holder by about 1.5 inches each side, and rests at the base. so, if you push the bikes sideways a little, the whole thing will fall on top of you because the hooks slip out!! i know this because it happened to me. (i pushed it sideways to see if it is sturdy - NOT A GOOD IDEA). I had to rig it to make it work...by tying ropes so the triangle piece will not slip out.
* not for heavy bikes (example...mountain bikes)
* not big enough to hold two adult bikes (they don't both fit in the grooves provided)
Customer Review: Sturdy and simple to install Summary: 5 Stars
I'll admit I was apprehensive that this item would be strong enough to hold 2 adult mountain bikes, but it does! I'm very safety conscious so it took me 30 minutes to install. Found the stud, pre-drilled the holes, used soap to make the screws go in easier, added a washer to each screw for strength and all is well. Based on other reviews, I put electrical tape on the arms where it contacts the bike to be sure it did not shred, but I'm thinking maybe the manufacturer fixed that issue because my rack did not have a "rubber coating" as others mentioned. Mine had a rubber tubing that slid over the metal and it looked pretty durable. I fit 2 adult Trek mountain bikes on it (each pointing in the opposite direction of the other). I got an item to cross off my honey-do list and my wife is extremely happy.
Customer Review: Another Excellent Racor Product Summary: 5 Stars
I actually own 2 of these. While they are a tad difficult to put up based upon where the 3 screw holes are, once they are in place they are perfect. I can easily put 2 mountain bikes on these, and also use the shelf up top to hold supplies. It holds well on the wall, and with 2 MTBs (which are much heavier than road bikes), it doesn't flex at all! It is made of very strong steal, that is nicely coated with no slip rubber. For maximum strength, i recommend that it is mounted into a stud. It does come with long screws for mounting, but no sheet rock anchors if you don't have a stud to mount it in, which is really only recommended for lighter bikes or using as a single bike mount. Another excellent product from the Racor line of products, which i own 5 of at this time for various storage.
Customer Review: Will Not Work With Most Mountain Bikes Summary: 3 Stars
This is a great bike mount, but the manufacturer fails to mention that it is not compatible with most mountain and women's bikes.
When mounting two bikes, the second bike needs to go on facing the opposite direction as the first bike, otherwise the handlebars hit. A similar problem occurs with mountain or women's bikes because the top tube on such bikes is slanted downwards to the seat tube. This places the back wheel directly over the handlebar of the bike mounted on the inside station.
The manufacturer could have solved this by dropping one of the arms on the inside or outside station down 2"-3", but apparently they underestimated the popularity of mountain bikes and the prevalence of women who ride bikes.
