Tools and Hardware Reviews of Range Kleen WKT4162 66-Battery Organizer with Removable TesterCustomer Review: Neat storage rack - battery tester is cheap Summary: 4 Stars
When I saw this I thought "This is exactly what I need!" I had a drawer full of batteries of different sizes and it was always nagging me that I didnt have a neater way to store them. Plus, I had some semi-used batteries that I'd end up mixing with brand new ones. This was perfect.
The single issue I have with this is that the battery tester is finicky. At first it said half my batteries were dead. Then I retested them and they were OK. Then dead. Then OK. At random. I tried to see if there was a certain way I needed to hold it, maybe add more pressure on the contacts or something. After multiple tests, I realized that it's just very cheaply made. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.
It's not a deal breaker hence only the one star penalty. I just think it shouldnt be too much to expect such a simple thing as a brand new battery tester to work.
Customer Review: Well thought out organizer. Summary: 4 Stars
I finally got tired of hunting down good batteries from various boxes and drawers only to find they where dead or the wrong size. Purchased this organizer and now I'm asking why I didn't get this sooner. Now all my fully charged (I know this thanks to the handy tester) batteries are in one place neatly organized in the varying sized holders. I even had a place for a button battery I found in a drawer. Why I have a button battery - I'll never know, but if my aging uncle comes by and needs one for his hearing aid, I'll know where to find it. I thought about hanging the organizer behind a utility door with the hardware provided but found it just as easily lays flat on a cabinet shelf above the dryer. Besides, I would have had to hunt down my missing screw driver that's hiding in a box or drawer somewhere. Maybe I ought to get a tool organizer next.
Customer Review: Adequate at best Summary: 2 Stars
I am keeping it because it was cheap and there are surprisingly few battery organizers available. But this is the barely adequate. It should have more AA and AAA spaces, and half of the D and C spaces. Or more all all. The biggest problem is that the spaces for the AAs are too tight for rechargeable AAs. Rechargeable AAs tend to be every so slightly larger than alkaline AAs so this is not a great choice if you use rechargeables [I personally think alkaline AAs and AAAs should be be illegal, because they are old tech that needs to die, and stop polluting the environement. Plus, why would you buy a battery you can only use once? Really?] Some company needs to step up and offer something good in this category so that using rechargeables is less of a hassle.
Oh, and the battery tester does not work. Not worth the bother to return it.
Customer Review: Battery Storage Rack Summary: 5 Stars
Purchased this item as I was tired of having batteries stored in several areas of the house. Also it seems everytime I needed a replacement I would grab one and go to use it and it was dead or close to. Found that the kids where grabbing new ones and putting the old ones back in their place. Now I have it mounted in my office closet up high enough the little one can not reach, plus having the tester right there allows me to verify I am grabbing a new one.
The only complaint I have with it is I wish it had more AA & button cell storage. Since most electronics these days are smaller and use AA, AAA or some form of button cell batteries I find buying them at costco exceeds the standard slots. I found one work around since we do not use that many D size I can fit 4 AAAs or 3 AAs in these slots.
Customer Review: Buying this has saved me money already! Summary: 5 Stars
Finally, a central place for all my batteries!
I first saw a similar product at my stepfather's house a few years ago and finally remembered to go looking for one. Of course, Amazon.com had it.
No more searching for AAA, AA, C, D and 9-volt batteries. I know exactly where they are. I can also use the tester to see if the battery is good before putting it into the remote, the camera, the computer mouse, the flashlight, what-have-you.
I knew I had a lot of batteries, but putting them all in a central location showed me there is no need to pick up an extra pack at the store just in case for quite some time. That's saving me 3, 4 or more dollars each time I don't buy more.
I'm seriously considering buying a few more for Christmas gifts.
