While I agree that this light does have a spotlight effect if you are reading a large book like I do, the effect would probably be barely noticable on a novel-sized page. It is very bright and makes my books really easy to read while keeping my wife in total darkness -- perfect! Be careful of this product. I got one and it does not work. It is cheaply constructed. I would return it, but it is not worth the effort. I just gave up and threw it away. Others seem to like this product, so I may just have gotten a bad one.
It also took several weeks to arrive after ordering.

Too many night reading lights are hard to use or do not have enough light. This is a good light. It is easy to set down on something and has a good directional light. Does not clip to the book so it does not hinder reading. The best reading light that I have(and I have gone through several).Customer Review: I dig this..comfy..moveable..really like it

I really like this..the light that emanates is a different..bluish color..but I really like it..especially when I'm watching tv in total darkness (like I love to)..and then a small beam of night peers from my shoulder aiming at my book pages. I read while lying down and have been trying to find a book light that works well in that position. I must have bought about 10 books lights. This one, because it can sit on the pillow, works. The light is strong and its direction is fully adjustable.
