Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rayovac SE3DLN Sportsman Xtreme 300-Lumen LED LanternCustomer Review: great lantern Summary: 5 Stars
I got this to do away with my propane lantern. I always find my coleman propane to be too bright, hot and bug attracting. [Not too mention the glass globe and lrg size and delicate mantles]. Although it is adjustable, it always goes out if I lower it too much.
This Rayovac lantern is very bright, well built, versatile [upside down w/o diffuser- right side up w/ diffuser]. I appreciate all the thought that went into the design, right down to the handle which is shaped to lie flat against the body of the lantern. It packs well. It's light. Seems very durable and pretty water resistant.
I have no idea why everyone complains abt the battery compartment. The first time I used it and since then, I have had no problems. The compartment is well marked.
I use AA 2700aH rechargeable batteries with adapters and a duracell powerpak recharged with foldable solar array to run the battery charger to recharge the AA batteries. The AAs put out fine in this lantern in place of the 3 Ds. My aim is to do away with propane on all but the stove.
I'll be getting the smaller version of this light, too.
I'm quite happy for a change that something doesn't seem like junk right out of the box!!
Customer Review: Little, but powerful Summary: 5 Stars
I was shocked to see how small this item was. I am used to using a Coleman Duel Fuel Lantern...so this was definately not what I had imagined. It is about the height of an unsharpened #2 pencil, and about half as wide. With that said, for it's size it is very bright. I am happy with the product, and can't wait to see what the battery life is like. I do agree with other comments that you should remove the batteries when not in use, as the green flashing light doesn't stop when the light is off. It is easy to pack away and carry along because of it's small size. I have no complaints, and feel that this was a "good deal" despite the size.
Follow up: We used this light while catfishing last night, and we were amazed at the amount of light we had. In fact, we used the low setting, because it's not much different than the high setting, and you get better battery life from low. I plan to order more! The batteries held their charge all night long! You should still remove the batteries when not in use, as the flashing light will eventually drain them. If you want an emergency light...keep the batteries near the unit, but not inside! I thought the small size would be an issue...turns out it's a PLUS!
Customer Review: Incredible Lantern, Incredible Price Summary: 5 Stars
If you are in the market for a low priced lantern that delivers plenty of light, this is the one you are looking for. with 300 Lumens of white light this lantern provides even illumination from any angle. I looked at both expensive, and inexpensive lanterns, but no other put out as much light, yet was so cheap. The build of the lantern is solid enough that it looks as though it will put up with some abuse, which, over the course of it's life, it may well get. Bottom line: for 25 dollars, you likely won't do any better that this lantern; I can, and already have, recommended it to others. It will very possibly be in the running for a gift for other family members, which I wouldn't consider were it not a excellent lantern at such a good price. BTW: addressing the concern that was expressed in another review about the beacon LED on the front of the lantern: at a flash rate of about 12 flashes per minute, with a flash duration of a few miliseconds, the drain on the batteries would probably not exhaust the batteries during the shelf life of those batteries. And, if the lantern is situated so that the LED is visible, it will greatly aid in locating the lantern in an emergency situation. Two thumbs up from me!
Customer Review: Great Product!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I live on the gulf coast where we have to deal with hurricanes frequently,..and electric power is subject to be lost during a storm at anytime.I decided to try this product and see if it was for me. I read some of the, not so favorable comments concerning the blinking green light draining the batteries. I decided to run my own test to see if they were accurate in their evaluations. I bought some good size "D" batteries and marked the date I installed them on the batteries before I installed them in my lantern. I bought the lantern from Amazon.com in September,2010 and the lantern still has plenty of power and bright battery life,...going on toward March of 2011.
I don't expect to have any battery problems inside of a year's time,...at least. I pick it up and hit the switch to check the light, distribution, every so often,...and for a small lantern,...man it really throws out the light!!!! I'm going to buy 2-3 more, one for my truck and and give some to my sisters as presents! Well worth the price too! Replacing the cap on the battery compartment requires strict attention,..but is not to difficult,..considering the output and quality of the product and the light it produces!
Customer Review: Very impressed Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this lantern for our camping trip and was thoroughly impressed. I couldn't believe the amount of lumens this lantern produces. I was initially concerned with the battery life of the lantern but then was happily surprised that the lantern was still pumping out the light after our 3rd 2-day camping trip. We had to of been using the lantern at least 5 hours a day too. I am very happy and will be ordering additional units for my employees to use in attics and crawlspaces at work. The lantern is very well built (something i'm very picky about) and very durable. I've dropped multiple times already. It's very compact w/ a built-in handle and hanging hook on the bottom. The lensed shield is removable which in turn produces a lightbulb illumination effect which works very nice for hanging in a tent or above a cooking stove. Be warned when using w/ close by neighboring campers, this lantern is very, very bright. Overall, Be comforted in purchasing this well built lantern without hesitation. You will be happy you did and will not regret it. I know I enjoy it and I'm done with the propane/kerosene lanterns for good! Hooray for not having to replace those stupid mantles anymore!
