Tools and Hardware Reviews of Raytek MT4 Mini Temp Non-Contact Thermometer Gun with Laser Sighting

Customer Review: More fun than you would think
Summary: 4 Stars

Ok, I purchased this for my wife to use in the kitchen. She saw it on tv and thought it would be good to get temp readings of skillets, griddles, to aid in cooking. Our appliances aren't the best, so this was a way to get more consistent cook temperatures. What I didn't anticipate was how much fun it is.

Yea, I'm a geek and love new gadgets probably more than most. But there is something completely fascinating in finding out the surface temperatures of various objects. Point the gun at my wives's hand, 87 degrees. Point at my hand, 93 degrees. Point it at my dogs ear, 89 degree (she's pretty hairy). How about the patio furniture, 91 degrees. Cool - try it again at 2:00 - 122 degrees. Those frozen peas 36 degrees. The floor, the wall, interesting. They are all the same as the inside temperature of 73 degrees. The readings are pretty much instant. And it's even got laser beams! Point the dot at the OJ in the fridge, pull the trigger and 46 degrees. It's that easy. Hood of my barbeque got surprisingly hot at 230 degrees and the grill was over 400 very quickly after lighting it.

In truth, my wife hasn't really even used it yet, but this thing sure is fun. Can't wait to take it into the garage and check out my motorcycle's engine and exhaust.

Customer Review: Laser Sighting Mini Temp Thermometer
Summary: 5 Stars

What a great little device. It has many uses. As a building manager of a large building I have often had to stand in a chair to check if the air was cool or not coming out of a vent. Now I just point at the vent with the red infrared spot light and instantly measure the temp coming out. It sort of looks like a little gun and the digital readout is right in front of your eyes. Extremely light weight and operates on a 9 volt battery. I purchased a new window air conditioner for my garage yesterday. I quickly found the air coming out of the vent to be 43 degrees. My home vent at the far end of the house was 51 degrees. I can point it at my sofa and tell whether my cat was sleeping on one spot. No longer do I have to argue with a tenant about whether the air coming out of a vent is to hot or not. One quick point at the vent and presto I know the temp. My HVAC company who works on the units in my building give one of these to each tech. When they are doing preventative maintenance they always check the temp at each vent. That is where I first saw one. There are some a few dollars cheaper but I would not change my decision for a few less dollars. This in my opinion is a 5 star product.

Customer Review: You know you buy too much stuff from Amazon when you pick up the Raytek Mini Temp gun
Summary: 5 Stars

I originally purchased this thermometer to tune the engines of gas-powered, radio controlled vehicles. It works wonderfully for that purpose, but I quickly found myself measuring the temperature of nearly everything in my environment. If you're curious by nature, you'll love this thing. You can find out the temperature differential between the floor and ceiling of your room, or between the floors of your house. FInd out just how much heat your computer, television, xbox, stereo, or other random stuff is producing. You can also use it to track down holes in the thermal barrier of your home by measuring the temperature at at the edges of windows, doors, and other trouble spots. If you plug those leaks, you can save a lot of money on your energy bills, particularly if you live in a climate with high temperature variation between summer and winter. It's also great for measuring the temperature of your grill, or checking the accuracy of your oven. If you're a cook, this tool pairs well with the Thermapen, particularly if you cook meat on a regular basis.

Customer Review: Neat gadget for the home chef
Summary: 5 Stars

I really looked into one of these because of the show "Good Eats" on Food Network -Alton Brown (the host) uses one and I loved the idea of it. It's relatively inexpensive, so I figured it'd be cool to have - I find myself using it more and more now that I have it. Cooking meat and you want to make sure it is getting to the right temperature for safe consumption? That's where this comes in. Want to know if the burner is still hot without touching it? Want to know if the cookies have cooled off from the oven? Heck, we even used it to see if the engine of the car had been run recently without ever touching it.
I've heard of people using it for ghost hunting - I haven't tried that, but it's nice to think I could. ;)
It's not a neccesity by any means, but it's a neat, inexpensive gadget that you'll find yourself using more than you think.

Customer Review: Great little infrared thermometer
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this Raytek minitemp thermometer after attending a chocolate tempering class and watching the instructor using one. The instructor informed us she had been using her thermometer for years and never had any problems. I can temper by touch but using the thermometer meant I didn't have to watch my chocolate quite as closely and I could check the temperature of my dipping room more easily. I've loved this product. The only downside is the rest of my family loves it too and enjoys taking the thermometer all around the house checking the different temperatures of inside the fridge, the water heater, their rooms and various things like the fish tank and the house plants. I would highly recommend this thermometer as easy to use, fairly accurate and pretty durable.
