Customer Review: inexpensive, gets the job done

I was a little disappointed that this shade does not actually "darken" my room, but since I already have another window covering (standard mini-blinds) they do a sufficient job at further reducing the light that makes it into my room at night.
I didn't find the shade quite as easy to cut as some other reviewers indicated. (I used a standard, serrated kitchen knife.) Because of this, the edges of my shade are a little messy looking. Again, this isn't a problem for my installation since the shade is simply hanging behind my blinds anyway. If I intended this shade to remain up long term as my principal window covering, however, I wouldn't be too thrilled by how cheap it all looks.
So, my bottom line is that this is a good deal for the money as long as you know what you're getting.
EDIT ON 8/11/08:
I just wanted to add that only a couple of months after putting this shade up, the "stickies" that are used to hold it up failed -- this despite me normally not even moving the shade up and down each day, so the only force put on this shade most days was the weight of the shade itself. Very disappointing. I tried to find something to put and keep the shade back up and ended up just using a couple of nails so this thing would for sure stay put. I therefore would downgrade this to 3 stars.

I have allergies and have used Redi Shades for over 4 years, have used the cordless and the ones with the cord. I like the cordless best. The are easy to cut and easy to hang.
On windows that get usage and because I live in the south, (Hot here) sometimes the tape at the top of the blinds gradually come loose, so I just take a small piece of duct tape and place on center and corners when I first put up, then it doesn't make any difference how hot it gets, it won't come loose.
They are wonderful temporary shades, gives your room a nice look from the outside and you can replace as often as the dust requires. I would never go back to using regular blinds after using Redi Shades. In addition, the price is very reasonable.
Try them, you will not be disappointed.
If you are wanting to truly darken your room, take a white garbage bag and tape it across your window (so it looks okay from the outside). Cover with Expensive Dark Green Garbage bags (they are darker than cheap) (hang long across, use tape if in apartment or use tacks if in your own place to secure them. Then so your room looks nice, hang your room darkening Redi Shade.
You room will be really dark. My husband said our bedroom is like a cave. LOL.

Customer Review: Who cares about the blinds, the shipping is shameful! SHAME, SHAME, SHAME, Amazon!

I ordered 4 of these blinds--all in one order! Each shade is in a plastic box and each of those measures about 2" X 1-1/2" X ~38-1/2"
However, EACH SHADE of the four I ordered was shipped to me in its own 12" x 17-3/4 X 40" BOX--Yes, that would be a 1 foot x 1-1/2 ft x 40 inch BOX for each smaller than 2 inch by 2 inch blind!! Then, of course, to them fit each box is stuffed with a huge amount of crumbled paper so the shade doesn't move around! I was shocked to come home and find a huge stack of boxes by my front door and appalled to find ONE SHADE in each box--shipped on the same day!!
I am shocked and appalled that Amazon would permit this kind of flagrantly wasteful shipping practice! I read in a review that they had shipped blinds independently to a previous buyer, but I guess I'd hoped they addressed the issue. Apparently, they have not! This is a flagrant abuse of the environment for who knows what reason, but I will not order any more of these blinds--even if I like them--given their wasteful shipping practices! I would encourage others not to purchase these blinds unless you can get a commitment to batch-ship orders of more than one blind!

This is a great shade. I have bought redi shades before; however, they always looked like a temporary shade because of the material (and no cord). This shade can easily pass as a 'regular' shade. The vinyl (which almost looks like it has a 'pattern') makes the shade look better and not temporary. You might wonder about the 'vinyl' but it's not like regular vinyl (nothing shiny here). My bedroom gets a lot of light and I was surprised how 'room darkening' these shades were. Of course they didn't make the room pitch black but they did a great job filtering out the sunlight and definitely made the room darker (almost as dark as my room darkening roller shades that I had previously). The cord is also a nice touch. It's in the middle of the shade and has a toggle which aids in the 'not temporary' look. These shades are truly peel and stick and don't look cheap at all. I didn't have to cut these shades but have previously cut redi shades and it always was as easy as gathering the shade 'together' and cutting the end with a knife. All in all, I thought they were great and would highly recommend them.Customer Review: I did it myself!

I have been needing new shades for quite awhile, but have put it off because I am so not handy. When I saw these, I thought I might actually be able to do the job, and if I didn't, I wouldn't be out that much. I needed to put 2 into one big window. I couldn't figure out how to overlap them, so I put one up full size and trimmed one. Trimming was the hardest part. I didn't buy the trim tool and now wish I had. I did get the job done with a combination utility knife, serrated knife, and scissors. Don't look too closely at it, but I did get the job done. One of the sticky pads didn't want to hold and I didn't want to hold it long enough to get it to stick. I have a dust mop with an extension handle, so I put it on the sill and extended the handle up to the shade and tightened it. I left it for several hours and it is now sticking. The best part is I was able to resolve any difficulties I encountered. I feel proud of myself and I even slept later this morning because the room was darker! I hope it keeps my son's dog from getting me up early when he visits!
