Customer Review: Great product, attrocious packaging

Product is excellent for temporary room darkening (or even more permanent if you are careful about installing and perhaps enhancing with minimal window treatment.) However, please be warned about the packaging. Each of 5 shades came in its own box that was HUGE and loaded with paper. Completely unnecessary as all five could have fit in ONE box 1/3 of the size. It took me 45 minutes to unpack and get rid of all the packaging so I could leave the house (the five boxes completely blocked my entryway.) I was LIVID and will NEVER order these from Amazon again. I do want more and will go through another retailer. This is obviously the work of a disgruntled or zero-IQ employee that is trying to ruin Amazon's otherwise great track record. I had read another review mentioning this, but trust me NOTHing can prepare you for the insanity of this packaging. And, to make matters worse, one of the shades was bent! Completely ridiculous. These shades are better than I expected. They're a bit thicker and sturdier than I thought they'd be. EASY to install. I measured out the window and used the measurements that are right on the shade to cut. I used a serrated kitchen knife to do it.
I have a nice bamboo shade that I ordered to fit on the inside of my window. What I didn't know is that at night with the lights on you can see right thru it. I didn't have anymore room in the window to mount a regular pull down of blinds. I didn't want to get anything to cover the blinds since the reason I got them is because they look nice, not to cover them up. We thought about curtains, but the bamboo style we got is made to fly solo. Slapped two of these in (its a double window) and they fit right in there nice and work great. Not sure if I would use them by themselves, unless it was temporary or strapped for cash.

I have used this in my daughter's room and in my living room for the past two summers and it makes a huge difference on the power bill.
The late afternoon sun & 20' ceilings in my living room make it more like an oven than a living area. I put these shades underneath the mini blnds for 1/2 of the windows in the room. Before I used these my AC couldn't keep up to keep the house at 73 degrees. It would always get up to 77 or 78. With these on though, it is so cool & comfortable.
What's even greater is that I can take them down once summer is over and put them back up the following year.
They are very EASY to install - less than 10 minutes.
***I highly recommend that you clean the area that the adhesive strip will stick to with alcohol before you hang these. A clean area helps the adhesiveness last longer.

I bought these shades for my new home with 30+ windows and until I knew what to do with the window dressings, these work just fine. I like how easy they are to install and how good they look. They are a little tricky to cut with the tool they provide; you need to cut them to size with a hack sawish type tool...I used a like ginsu knife (one that cuts through anything) and it seemed to cut o.k. They have 2 draw strings in the middle to pull them up and let down, so to pull them up evenly on both sides, you have to grab the strings in the middle and levvel them. We needed a small shade for our shower window. I was looking a car shades, because they hold up to weather and have suction cups, so no installation. I saw that the redi-shade, which I though was only made with paper, came in vinyl and that it was cut to fit. We had to trim quite a bit, but it has been fine for the purpose. It actually goes with our honeycomb shades so no glaring difference. Obviously, this is not a fashion or home decor statement, but for $9+, it suited the purpose fine. It sticks on (with tape, not suction cups), so I'm careful to hold the top when I pull it down, but it's worked very well.
