Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rialco 84010 Flood Alarm with 11 inch Sensor Arm; 1-PackCustomer Review: Not exciting but necessary product Summary: 5 Stars
We purchased several of these two years ago and really appreciate the assurance they provide. They are LOUD and easy to install and no false alarms. We have them in the basement by the sump pump and by the water main (which has leaked before during heavy rains) and in the wet bar. They are easy to install using Velcro and have a 12-18" pigtail that is sturdy but can be bent over the edge of say a sump pump. Batteries last a year plus and do beep when they get low. This model is bit more money than others but we haven't had any of troubles others have reported on those. We don't go in our basement a lot so the peace of mind knowing we'll have an alarm if trouble develops is great. Several friends have had their sump pump fail and got flooded while they were in house. Of course, if you are not home this won't help and you'd need a more fancy whole-house shut-off system like WaterCop, but that is LOTS of $$.
Customer Review: Great item Summary: 5 Stars
I lost a wood floor due to a leak under my dishwasher that ran below the wood floor and warped the whole thing. It was a terrible mess and was insured but the insurance company tried to salvage the floor so we went through 3 weeks of hell with exhaust fans, humidifiers etc running in the house and a salvage employee constantly dropping in to check on the machines. A nightmare!!!
I put one of these in every place I could think of in the house where a water leak would cause damage. Since I put these in they have caught a leak below the dishwasher, one below/inback of the refrigerator (ice maker) and another below an upstairs sink.
Am I sold??? You bet!
I called my insurance company to see if I could get a discount now that I put these in. No luck. I'm no longer insured for water damage from an internal leak and they are no longer insuring for internal leaks in new policies.
Customer Review: Exactly what I needed. Summary: 5 Stars
Occasionally, my home air conditioner condensate tube clogs up, and the water collects in a 1-gallon drip pan I've set up under the blower in my finished basement. Problem was, I wouldn't know the pan was full and running over until I saw the wet carpeting, because all this is behind an intake filter and hidden from view.
So this little device is perfect for my application. The body of the unit is easily mounted with velcro where I want it, and the sensor wire bends to hold its shape so its tip is right at the bottom of the drip pan. Now, when I hear the alarm (which is plenty loud), I have plenty of time to shop-vac the crud out of the tube, and not have my carpet damaged.
The other thing I like is that this unit is made in Canada, not China. That was a refreshing change!
Customer Review: Dishwasher Leak Alert Summary: 5 Stars
After having several dishwashers over 30 years (none of which ever cause water damage), we had a dishwash that was not very old develop a leak that went unnoticed until quite a bit of expensive wood flooring was ruined. Before replacing dishwasher and floor (was not going to trust dishwasher ever again) I did two things: 1st I had a metal pan fabricated with a 1/2" lip to collect any minor leak AND drilled through the cabinet for the Flood Alarm's sensor arm to rest on the pan. Alarm was mounted on opposite side underneath sink. Hopefully this will never happen again. Solution required the Flood Alarm's sensor arm since I did not have easy access to the underneath of dishwasher from the front for other alerts that do not have a sensor arm. JAC
Customer Review: Peace of Mind... And it works, too! Summary: 5 Stars
A flood is awful. We use water everyday, but not a whole lot of our stuff is waterproof, so when water meets stuff, it's usually time for new stuff.
This little flood alarm does exactly what it says. It emits a REALLY LOUD alarm when the probe comes in contact with water. I installed this near our washing machine after a minor flood because of overflow at the drain.
About three weeks later, peace of mind turned into a real stuff saver when it overflowed again. Granted, now we need to have the drain looked at, but the investment in a flood alarm was well worth it.
