This product does not "suck", but you are going to need some if you want it to work really good. I tried it with an Oreck hand held vac and it bogged down with very little pressure on the head (on the carpet). The roller is vacuum operated so the "suck" that you need is critical. I hooked up my 3 hp Shop Vac to it and it really rolled! I use it for stairs only, and it did a very good job with the Shop Vac. If you have a good hose-job vac, it should be ok, but you better have some good "suck" or it won't!
