There are two ways to use this:
First hook it to a vacuum or dust collector like the Festool CTs or Fien when using them with things like band saws, table saws, router tables, etc.
Second as suggested in the directions hook it to the dust collector and wheel the conglomeration around.
Rating for the first use:
The Good:
Supplied hose is friction fit and plenty long for the application.
Hooks to a 4" port with a cheap adapter.
Gets most of the dust and all the sawdust, and big stuff.
The Festool CT including the mini, midi and 22 have plenty of suction for most applications; so any good vacuum should be able to do the job.
Made of anti static plastic.
Easily portable so it is no problem to move between applications even if one is in the shop and the other outside.
Low cost alternate to a real dust collector like JET 708626CK DC-1100CK 1-1/2-Horsepower 1,100 CFM Canister Dust Collector, 115/230-Volt 1-Phase.
The Bad:
Doesn't do very fine dust.
Unless you have a vacuum with between 50mm to 21/2" hose connection you will need to mess around with adapters. In the Festool CT line only the 33 has a 50mm hose.
Most of the adapters are not antistatic so you will need to work the grounding problem.
Not usable for HazMat without a vacuum that has a HEPA filter on th Vacuum; an expensive add on, and emptying the bucket will require a respirator and protective clothing.
The Ugly:
Potential explosion/fire hazard unless well grounded.
Can be messy to empty.
This plus a good vacuum/dust collector comes close to or exceeds the cost of a "real" duct collector.
Not suitable for heavy dust producers like DEWALT DW735 15 Amp 13-Inch Benchtop Planer or JET 628900 Mini 10-Inch 1-Horsepower Benchtop Drum Sander, 115-Volt 1-Phase.
I did not rate it for the second use as IMHO it is more trouble than it is worth. The new The Ultimate Dust Deputy is designed to fit on flat top dust collectors like the Fetool and should work pretty well in this application; but it should for $229!
Overall a pretty good gadget that gets you good dust collection at a low entry point.
