Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rockwell RK5102K SoniCrafter Deluxe 72-Piece KitCustomer Review: Great Tool Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the Sonicrafter a while back and I've done quite a few projects with it. I cut out a place in our kitchen cabinets so I could install a dishwasher for my wife. I don't know if I could have done this using any other tool. I was so impressed with it I took on another project in the kitchen. I refaced all of our kitchen cabinets. My wife is very impressed with how they turned out and so our my neighbors. I also used it to sand down and repair a rusted up hot water tank on my Son-in-law and daughters camper. My Son-in-law and daughter were both amazed at how well it turned out. Then my Son-in-law was working on the roof of the camper with a putty knife trying to remove old caulking and other debris and needless to say he was getting nowhere, so I brought out the Sonicrafter and put on the blade to remove putty and in no time he was finished with his camper roof. He told my daughter he wanted one of these for Christmas. Then last week my neighbor asked me if he could borrow it. He wanted to install some laminate flooring in a couple of closet. He used it cut under trim around the doors and corners. He said he tried to remove the baseboard but he could not get it loose so, he just ran it behind it and cut the nails off. He told me his daughter kept asking him if he liked the Sonicrafter. He told her
he really liked it and would like to have one. I think he may get one for Christmas.
I gave it five stars I love it...

Customer Review: Excellent Tool Summary: 5 Stars
I've been wanting a Sonicraft Tool since Fein was advertising their $400 plus tool kit. I recently found a version of this at Sears, but it was battery powered and Sears don't keep batteries or replacement parts & supplies in stock, so I walked away from it. When I seen the Rockwell Sonicraft, I immediately ordered it. I already had a need for it the day I received it. My task would have been complicated to say the least and the cosmetics of the job I'm sure would not have been neat without the Sonicraft. So far, I've used the cutting blade and the sander. I'm impressed with the way the sander paper is applied. It's velcro, and believe it or not, the paper really sticks and stays in place. Not a problem pulling the paper off when it needs replacement.
The quality of the tool appears and feels heavy duty. This is a tool that should last a long time with proper care. If I was to complain about anything, it would be the case that holds the attachments. The case is too small to put the attachments and supplies in. I had to buy a bigger case in the Arts & Crafts Department of Walmart, but then it was almost too big to fit into the carrying bag that holds the tool.
It's still worth the money and I would encourage anyone who performs general maintenance around the house or professionals who wants to save time and aggravation with certain unique jobs. This is a five-star product.
Customer Review: Sonicrafter a very good tool -- Updated Summary: 4 Stars
Why four stars instead of five? The blades need to be put on VERY CAREFULLY. They MUST be seated properly, or else they won't cut, and will begin to gouge their axle, which for all we know, might ruin the tool. Also, as it is made in China, we won't know for some time whether it is a quality tool. p.s. Tighten the hex drive screw very securely!
We do a lot of work on our apartments, but are not contractors. Here's what we love about the Sonicrafter. It does not get dust all over the place when cutting or sanding. The scraper is incredible. You really can make cuts right up to any surface. The sanders get into tight spots. The tool does NOT kick back. You can use it in a cramped space (like between a floor and the ceiling below it). you can easily make a shallow cut when there may be something behind your workpiece. You do not have to be strong to use it. It is quieter than a circular saw, a sabre saw, and a sander.
It will not replace your sabre saw, your circular saw, or sander. But it is great. The best instructions are on the online videos for both the Sonicrafter and the Fein oscillating tool.
April, 2010 Update.
We have been using our Sonicrafter for almost a year now. NO PROBLEMS! A great tool, well made. And it's more useful than we had expected. We have not used the dust attachment: the tool does not create a lot of dust.
Customer Review: An essential power tool Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my Sonicrafter for a couple of months and already I feel like I've gotten more than my money's worth out of it. It is a heavy-duty, professional quality tool and this set comes with about everything one needs to get started on any project. So far I have used all of the tool attachments except the rasping triangle, and so far so good.
A kitchen remodeling pressed the tool into heavy use, but the Sonicrafter was most impressive of all in removing loose paint from old crown molding and making the various surfaces smooth, ready for priming and painting. This latter job took me less than an hour -- it was in a large bathroom --with far better results than I would have imagined from tens of hours of hand scraping and sanding. Having pointed sanding tools operating with this much power speeds up detail work immensely.
I find the allen wrench "chuck" easy enough to use and have had saw blades slip only a couple of times when I got in a hurry.
I have yet to use the vacuum attachment -- I'll need to get a hose extension for my shop vac -- but it looks like a clever and effective set-up. But it's not an essential feature, since the tool is great even without it.
I shopped but did not demo the competing products. One was too expensive and the other seemed a little light weight.
I am thrilled with the Sonicrafter.
Customer Review: great tool, solid construction works well for small jobs. builds up heat on top of sonicrafter in about an hour of use. Summary: 4 Stars
the sonicrafter is a great multi tool it is good for small jobs. iam very pleased with its performance thus far I have cut sheet rock spot sanded parts of my wood floor it leaves a clean smooth look to corners I can get in places I could not reach with my belt sander. My only grip is the tool attachments wear out too quickly, I melted the sanding velcro attachment head for the sonicrafter but I will order a new one. the prices a little high for some of the repacement attachment parts. but fein is the same way. when I cut into grout the tool did what it was advertised to do, it just takes time, all in all Im very happy with the sonicrafter thus far. I will engage in some wood cutting soon to see if this tool is up to the task. All in all I do like the tool it is outstanding for precision cutting and working in small spaces. just wish the attachments lasted longer. make sure to tightent the attachments to the tool or you'll get a bad vibration when powering up the tool, and wear the attachment heads where they are conneted to the tool itself. The sonicrafter will be fine just the attchement will get worn. ITs a good purchase for the money you pay. the 72 piece kit is really good, a lot of sand paper attachments I like how the velcro is used to hold the sand paper to the attachment. great tool just take breaks between 2 hourly uses.
