Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rockwell RK5102K SoniCrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

Customer Review: adaptability?
Summary: 3 Stars

The rockwell sonicrafter sounds like exactly what i need. i have researched all of the oscelating multi tools which was time consuming and i got most of the answers that i am looking for but one.can i use the fein multi master accessoties on the rockwell sonicraftrer. i read that the multi master makes an adapter atachment for accessory use between its old and newer version. i alao read that this adapter can be used to fit multimaster assessories on other multi tools. my question is "is their any way to use multi master accessories on the sonicrafter?". i own the craftsman next tex multi tool and it works great but does not have variable speed, an option for a courd, and only 15,000 opm's. it does have accessory compatability with the multi master, a dust collecrer, and a led light mounted to the front(whoch is extreemly usefull). I have a refinishing company and need the fine tuning of the variable speed and need the courd for continuous use. the other thing that i need is the detail sander that (as far as i know) only the fein multi master offers. i would very much appreciate any info that you have on this, thank you, Tim (Lloyds Professional Refinishing)

Customer Review: Excellent tool for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

I have used this tool to cut 2x4 TYP deck boards for replacement, to cut out rotten soffit and trim, and to make precision cuts in a very expensive knotty alder bar to provide clearance for a wine cooler. This tool performed competently at all of these tasks. I am actually finding more and more uses for the tool. There is a learning curve for those who have not used an oscillatory tool before and it is easy to overheat or break blades. The key is to let the tool do the work without forcing it.
The only reason I could not rate it at five stars was that the speed control failed. Since I received this as a present and did not have the receipt, I thought that I would be stuck with a single-speed tool. But after a foray through very poor customer support in the far east, my wife was able to get someone here in the States who spoke English. They promptly sent a complete new kit and instructions for returning the defective unit. Once you get to the right people you can expect good customer service.
Bottom line - this is a great tool for less than half of what you would have to pay for the German original.

Customer Review: Good and bad
Summary: 4 Stars

I agree 100% with most of the other posters as far as this tool is loud and after using for a short time your hands are tingling and hot.
They should have used a fine thread for the tool attachment so it would stay tight.
But it will do the jobs that no other tool can do when in a pinch.
eg. There was a rotted 2 X 4 that someone had used as an outside corner board then installing the siding with a rotted spot in the middle of it.
It cut straight into the board without having to remove the whole board and replacing.
My biggest customer is using it to remove grout and likes it.
We just used it to under cut the door jams when intalling tile in a bathroom. The tricky part was no other tool could have cut out half of the jam like I wanted it
Works great to cut holes in sheetrock for old constrution boxes.
I see where a lot of people were raving about the nice box there's came in. Mine came in a simple cloth bag.
As far as finding sand paper I just use my hook and loop paper that I already have and just cut it to fit.
I agree that vacuum pick up is a joke.

Customer Review: Great tool for door contractor
Summary: 5 Stars

Like many others I read all the reviews for this tool and was debating whether or not to purchase this or the Fein tool. I am a contractor that cuts out and installs decorative glass into customers existing doors and sidelites. The Rockwell seemed to be the best among the Fein competitors so I took a chance because of the large price difference and so far am very pleased with my selection. The tool worked perfectly for cutting out steel and fiberglass sidelites. I used the Universal End Cut blade and was suprised how well it cut. I did not have any problems with the blade coming loose as some reviews have stated. I bought this tool specifically to cut out side lites since there is usually not room for a jig saw to manuever and a saws-all is too hard to handle and does not leave a nice clean edge. With this tool I was able to plunge cut without drilling a pilot hole and make perfect square corners with ease. It saves me time on installations and really turns out to be the perfect tool for the job. The Sonicrafter is well built and I plan on using it for a long time.

Customer Review: 60 pieces of sandpaper and no diamonbd blades
Summary: 2 Stars

Forget it if you need to do a big project with it - it will take a long, long time. It does not replace other tools like circular saw, angle grinder, reciprocating saw, jigsaw, sander or any other dedicated tools.

What it does well is get into tight places with minor cuts like sheetrock cutouts and baseboards or detail sanding. 60 pieces of sandpaper and only two carbide blades - so much for the 72-piece set. It really needed couple of diamond blades for cutting into harder material like concrete and granite.

I had a bathroom remodel project and needed to cut a row of existing tiles. My angle grinder with a diamond blade zip right through the row of tiles but could not get into the tight corners. Brought out the multi-tool with a diamond cutting blade for the corners - it took forever to cut through an inch or two of tile.

On another occasion I needed to cut a ½" steel tubing but the steel blade was only good for one cut! Expensive at about $10 per small cut. They should come out with bi-metal steel cutting blades.
