Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rockwell RK5102K SoniCrafter Deluxe 72-Piece Kit

Customer Review: Rockwell Quality
Summary: 5 Stars

I also purchased this tool to remove thin set and tile. The first time I used the tool was to cut a piece of wood molding. The blade came loose quickly. My first reaction was that I had been taken by slick ads. I looked over the tool and blades to find a problem. In my haste to try this tool I did not seat the blade correctly over the nut on the tool. Once I realized the problem the blades never came loose again. I removed grout, thin set, cut nails, and undercut moldings. The last job wat using the scraper to remove glued down carpet pad from cement. It worked perfectly! This is a great tool and exceeded all of my expectations. As far as replacement blades are concerned, you can get them quickly online. I also purchased a Dremel blade from HD and it fit using the attachment that was shipped with the unit. The Dremel blade was much smaller than the Rockwell blade. This tool is a 10.

Customer Review: Not Rockwell Quality
Summary: 2 Stars

I was concerned about purchasing this product due to negative reviews, however, it was $200 less than the Fein and I did not anticipate using it very often. My Sonicrafter Deluxe has been used on three occasions for minor cuts. Before each use, I make certain the blade is tight. I cut two 2"x 1 1/2" holes in 7/16" sheathing on speed level 6 and the blade came loose as I started the second cut. After tightening extremely tight continued with the last cut. Also, the forward metal gear casing became so hot I had to wear gloves to continue. The Sonicrafter was used for about 10 minutes total. When I began, the blade was new. After I finished, the blade was very dull. I own many Rockwell products and while the tool is heavy and appears to be well made, this is not the service or longevity expected from Rockwell. Having used the Fein, I will spend the extra money next time.

Customer Review: Ehhh
Summary: 3 Stars

My wife and I just bought a home and I'm renovating the entire thing. Although I have many tools to get the job done, I saw the infomercial for the Fein Multimaster and was intrigued. The Fein was cost prohibitive, so I sterted looking for options and ran across the Rockwell. I've only had the oportunity to use it twice (once for cutting, once for sanding) and wasn't impressed. I cut a piece of base moulding to make room for a cabinet and the blade dulled about a half inch into it. Sanding proved to be better. I needed to sand a small area on a cabinet door I'd made and the Rockwell did a great job with out much vibration. Overall, I think the tool has a place, but I would say don't buy into the hype of a wonder multi-purpose tool. I've got other projects lined up and will attempt to use the Rockwell, but have my regular tools ready in case the Rockwell fails at them.

Customer Review: Good for small work
Summary: 4 Stars

Points to note.
1) Makes a lot of noise. and the noise level actually go up when u try to cut something.
2) Cuts to nails hammered in wood but doesn't cut wood smoothly.
3) Blades heat a lot quickly.
4) Time difference between manually cutting 18mm ply and using this tool. (manually it would have taken me 20 mins, using soniccrafter it takes me around 12-15 mins. If i use bench saw it would have done the work in < 3 mins.
5) Vaccum pipe is a joke. Attach it along with a vaccum cleaner and it makes a shrill whistling noise. and then if you attach it to the soniccrafter it increases the noise level. Best not to use it.
6) Tool it self is very handy helps me in cutting, sawing, sanding, and a lot of other stuff which would have taken a lot of time for me.
7) -Ve - Takes a while to change the blade

Customer Review: Great value for the money
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this tool now for about two weeks and have used it while replacing interior doors. So far I've only tried the general purpose wood / metal blade attachment that came with the kit and I have been more than happy with the results. I've cut through sheetrock with relatively little mess (it doesn't throw up the dust like a reciprocating or circular saw would) and I've also cut through 1.5" lumber and finish nails.

The tool itself is solid and well-built. The storage bag is quite rooomy and the attachments are well organized in their own little hard shell plastic case. I wish they included a couple of the gp wood/metal blades instead of just the one since I anticipate that it will be a blade that I will frequently want to use, but that is easily remedied by buying a few more blades. All in all this is a great tool to have in your arsenal!
