Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rockwell RK9000 JawhorseCustomer Review: Handy and strong but lacking a little for the money.. Summary: 4 Stars
This unit is certainly well made and strong enough to handle any job within reasonable limits...Someone would have to try real hard to break anything...I don't see any of the plastic parts as being a major problem...However, if the unit is going to be thrown around everyday in the back of a truck then possibly the plastic clamp/unclamp switch or the single leg tightening handle could get broken...
As supplied I think the unit should cost closer to $100-125...If they would have included the 52" extension then I think the price would have been more realistic...I almost sent it back but I don't have a portable vise of this magnitude so I kept it...
I have since added some wheels for the dual legs plus a handle and broader support for the single leg...These could be engineered in quite easily or at least offered as an option...Plus with my design none of my add ons have to be removed when the unit is folded and/or stored..
Bottom line the Jawhorse performs as advertised and for most people should last a lifetime...
Customer Review: Surprisingly better than I thought!!! Summary: 4 Stars
I saw the info-mercials about this product and thought i'd get it for a friend for christmas(why be the guinea pig yourself!). If it sucks, well... i'd just chaulk it up to a bad gift. When it got to my house, I couldn't believe the weight. "Holy crap!" was the first thing that ran through my mind. How much does this thing weigh? 45lbs?? I thought this would be way to heavy to be used on a regular basis. It turns out that it was just in this over sized bulky box. Once you actually take it out and use it, it's definitely manageable. It's heavy duty and actually very useful. I didn't think that we would use it as much as we do. We're in the process of rerenovating my friend's house. It's kind of funny because he admitted to me that when he first opened it, he thought to himself "Gee... Another crappy present. I guess it's nice, but i'm not really going to use this thing." After using it for the past month, he agree's that it's actually very useful. It's versatile, has great clamping strength, and it's very stable. I highly recommend it.
Customer Review: impressed, its all steel Summary: 4 Stars
This is not the type of thing I need all the time, but I've been looking for something like this for a long time. I saw it on an infomercial. So far this seems like a great product, just got it so I haven't been able to abuse it the way a tool should be beat on. I saw this on TV and found it on amazon but with free shipping. I got it because it seems like a good heavy portable vise.
It comes ready to use, easy to set up. It's sturdy and feels it. It's not as light as they make it look on TV, but I think thats a good thing. The way it looks I thought there might be a lot of cast aluminum to keep the weight down. It is all steel.
On TV they show it holding a 4' sheet of ply, for that you have to buy an additional jaw, just seems like one more thing to get kicked around/lost on site. And if you read the description it needs additional support for that anyway, seems to me a couple of cheap saw horses would be better.
So far I'm very pleased, I'll update after I beat this thing up a little.
Customer Review: Great Product Summary: 5 Stars
I first saw the Jawhorse on television while flipping channels. My attention was grabbed by an example of it holding a panel of sheetrock to a ceiling allowing for hands free work. One example after another convinced me that this would be a well used tool in my shop. My concern was that it may be made with too light of steel to be sturdy enough for all the things I wanted to do with it. I am thrilled to report that it is an excellent tool that is heavy duty and well made. My first project with it involved a 2 X 6 X 10'. It did a great job of clamping it in place while I measured and then sawed it to size. I have also used a router for making molding while the Jawhorse clamped the wood tightly in place, something that is very important to getting a good cut with the router.
In summary, I am very pleased with this product and highly recommend it. I'm looking forward to my next job with it which will be to clamp a bike in place while making adjustments to the derailer.
Customer Review: Can't be beat! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for my husband. It is well build and can't be beat. It is made in the US. It is well build, durable, and can be used for many uses one would not think of until they saw the video that we saw on TV advertising the product. Wish we had seen the ad when this first came out. It is so well planed out. The three legs for stability is just plane genius. In the past, balancing the sawhorse by putting boards under one or more legs was a pain. Now just open the sawhorse and put it where ever you want and it's balanced. It is slightly heavy but that's because it is so well built. My husband is over two hundred pounds and he can stand on it. The push handle to tighten the work down is another wonderful feature. Both hands can hold the object while your foot pumps the jaws tighter to hold the object. As is shows in the video, it can get tight enough to hold an egg but not break the shell. Now how can you beat that? You can't beat this sawhorse.
