Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dirt Devil Rechargeable Broom VacuumCustomer Review: Expect a longer sweep time & a "light cleaned" look Summary: 2 Stars
This broom vac is just OKAY. Its sucking power is so-so & can't pick up some small pebbles in our front entry. It's fine for sweeping up smaller lightweight particles like dust, hair & cheerios although many times I find myself sweeping the same dirt spot a few times just to get the broom vac to suck it up. I've now perfected a method of sweeping in a "figure eight" just to sweep up a pile of particles that it won't suck up the 1st time around. Sometimes it'll spit out particles, which I find really annoying. This causes me to empty the dust catcher more often than it should be. The bristles could be a little longer for grabbing items in harder to reach places, like the toe-kick in the kitchen. I also use it to sweep dirt on my front-entry area rugs that accumulates now that our snow is melting. It doesn't pick it all up & looks like someone just did a "light" cleaning. But it's better than grabbing out the big vacuum & certainly more convenient - just wish it would have better suction. It's also a good idea to hang this up when idle so the weight of this thing doesn't bend the short and stiff bristles.
If you're a lazy @#$ like me & don't like bending while cleaning or getting out the big vacuum, you may appreciate a gadget like this. But if our stores sold a basic broom that has the stand up dustpan that you see the janitors at the mall use, I would've gotten that instead. Infact, I was looking for that before I stumbled on this.
Customer Review: Disappointed! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought the broom vac Jan 2007. It worked very well on my kitchen tile and my hardwood floors. I kept it on all the time while vacuuming. The charge lasted about 20 minutes...enough to get the floors finished. Emptying the dirt bin was cumbersome, but I liked the vac so well, I went ahead and ordered 5 filters. When one filled up, I put in a clean one, washed the one I had removed, then let it dry completely. I kept the vac on the charger when not in use. I was so happy with the vac that I showed it to all my friends and urged them to get one. WELL, after about 4 months, the vac began losing power after a few minutes using it. Finally, it would hold a charge no longer than one minute! I looked on line to see if I could find replacement batteries. No, I couldn't. I found a customer help number, and when I called I was given the location of the nearest repair shop. I called the shop and was told they could repair it for free (under warranty)...... just bring in the receipt. You guessed it.....no receipt. I had cleaned out all my handbags several weeks earlier and must have thrown it out. Just my luck...I save every darn receipt I've ever gotten....but not this one! Anyway, I still keep the vac on the charger, and I find that after charging for a week or more, it will run about 5 minutes. Don't buy one. If anyone had found a similar, but better vac, please let me know.
Customer Review: I've had this POS for over a year and I still hate it Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this broom vac about a year and a half ago. I thought it would be good for my wood floors in the living and dining room and for the tile in the kitchen. Almost from day one, I noticed that it had very little suction power. It is so frustrating to try to clean up sand tracked in by my grand kids - repeatedly going over the same tiny sand particles with no luck - finally giving up and resorting to using a dust pan and brush.
Every time I use this POS I think to myself "I need to go and do a negative review, so others don't buy it." Well, after dozens of disappointing uses, I'm finally sitting down to do it.
What I hate about this broom vac:
1. No suction power - half the time, it struggles with sand, crumbs from fried chicken, Cheerios, etc.
2. Doesn't hold a charge - If I try to vacuum the entire kitchen, it fades and needs recharging before I'm done - and don't even think about doing another floor before charging for hours.
3. Heavier than expected - I'm a guy in my forties, still it's much heavier than a broom.
4. Kind of rickety - the handle is wobbly, not solid like a broom.
Not worth the money, since you will still need to use a dust pan and broom every time you use it - to pick up all the stuff it won't
Customer Review: Worthless and Useless Dirt Devil Broom Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this Dirt Devil Broom because I saw the commercial and I thought it would make sweeping easier not having to mess with a dust pan. In short, after using this Dirt Devil Broom a few times, I went back to my simple bristle broom and dust pan because they are easier to use, lighter weight, and more maneuverable.
According to the directions, you don't turn the vacuum on until you have swept up a pile, then you turn the vacuum on and it is supposed to suck up the pile (which it does poorly, you waste a lot of time trying to get it to suck the pile up, looking for why it isn't sucking the pile up....).
The Dirt Devil Broom is clumsy and heavy (because you're lifting it like a broom, not like a stick vac where the weight rests on the floor and you push it). I doesn't perform like on the commercials, it takes a lot of effort to get the broom to suck up the bits you've swept. You have to get it at just the correct angle so the vacuum has enough suction. This vacuum is so cumbersome, I went back to my bristle broom and dust pan which are much easier in all respects.
I just wish I had my money back, it has been sitting in the closet for 4 years (time to get rid of it).
Customer Review: Ok, but would look for a different option Summary: 2 Stars
This is a great product in concept. I have two dogs and lots of linoleum so I needed something easier than a big vacuum for everyday pickups. At first I liked the broom vac, then after a few uses I noticed the battery seemed to hold less and less charge. I have had it for a year now (but honestly don't use it that often because I have grown to hate it) and as soon as I turn it on after being fully charged, you can noticeably hear the motor start to get softer and softer instantly. It maybe holds a charge for 3 minutes now. I have to sweep as fast as possible in order to get all of my main living area done before we have zero charge. The suction power diminishes obviously with the battery power so you are almost holding the broom perpendicular in order to get some objects up. If this had more suction and better battery life it would be a great product. Unfortunately Dirt Devil won't take any returns after 90 days so mine will be going in the trash soon. (And I won't be buying a replacement!)
