Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dirt Devil Rechargeable Broom VacuumCustomer Review: Just pushes the dirt around. Summary: 2 Stars
This broom was mediocre from the word go. It's awkward as a broom but the vaccuum power was so weak that sweeping was pretty much its only use. Basically, you could push the dirt around (though not as easily as with a simple $7 corn broom) and it would suck up a few crumbs and that's kind of it. It wasn't broken, it just didn't work very well. There are no pets or young children in the household so it wasn't on heavy duty either. It was only used for cleaning the edges of the living room and a tile entryway and it didn't do that particularly well. Sadly, we didn't think to return it in time and about two months in the suction got even worse but we were stuck with it. The idea is good but it just did not work for us.
Save your money and skip this one. (We ultimately bought a corn broom and an 18-V B&D handvac to take over edge and entryway cleaning. Neither is as convenient as this product should have been, but both work well for their purposes.)
Customer Review: Sad little machine Summary: 1 Stars
My parents bought this for me when I asked for a small cordless vacuum like my mom and grandma use for small clean ups around the house. Although the idea of making it like a broom was creative and helped to pile up the dry crumbs on the kitchen floor, the only place there is suction is in a 3 inch hole in the middle of the base and the suction isn't very stron. So you have to go over the pile several times for the vacuum to actually pull up the crumbs into the canister.
Also I found that it did not hold a charge long enough for me to clean my kitchen floor, which is not very big. And the product is not flexible like a broom, which makes it difficult to get into some corners to get crumbs and hair out of them. I found that my regular broom and dust pan were much more successful in such endeavors.
I would not recommend trying this product, and would recommend more of a handheld or cordless stick vacuum style product for smaller clean ups around the house.
Customer Review: Awesome! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this thing!
I was a little hesitant when I read the other reviews that talked about how you had to hold the vacuum at a certain angle to get it to work well but I disagree. Ask my toddler, whom I let pull and drag the vacuum all over the house. You really can't see the ninja dog hair or other tiny particles of schmutz it's picking up but you can definitely see how well it works when you are emptying the bin and a little puppy pops out.
Don't get me wrong; it's not a full-on vacuum nor was it meant to be. But it totally solves my problem of having to do a daily sweep of the tile floors we have. I have to say, it's pretty great for a house with a tot who loves to do grown-up stuff (don't call CPS, he's supervised) and a dog who sheds like it's going out of style.
For the price I paid and the convenience and function I'm getting out of it, five stars may not be enough.
Customer Review: Make a great dust pan... Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this as a quick floor sweeper mainly for pethair in the tiled kitchen and hardwood foyer. As a broom, it's kind of awkward to use. It doesn't really have the bristles to actually sweep and you can't get into tight spaces.. But if you've ever tried to collect dog hair tumbleweeds in a dustpan you know that the sweeping motion makes them blow away so the suction of the vaccuum is a nice solution. What I do, use a good quality nylon broom and make piles. Then I suck up the hair and dirt with the broom vac, think dustbuster on a stick. This works nicely and I think I've gotton my money's worth from the product.
With pet hair, the dust cup area fills up fast and tends to clog in the opening. It is easy to empty; however.
I would probaby buy another one if mine broke but as it doesn't replace the broom.
Customer Review: better than I expected Summary: 4 Stars
For my purposes, this has been great. I've had it for a year and a half. I have wood floors, so I am mostly swiffer to get all dust and hair. For the sand/grit/crumbs that swiffering leaves behind, this is great. I use this maybe three times a week for just several minutes a time to vacuum up the little pile. The suction seems fine to me. I have had no problems with charging or having it hold a charge. I've charged it maybe three times since I've had it. The filter (like all dirt devils seem to) does seem to clog up quickly. I am going to buy replacement filters. I am taking one star off b/c it is heavier than I had expected. I think it is at least 3-4 pounds - much to heavy to try to sweep a large space. I had bought this at Target on sale for about 30 bucks, and it has been totally worth it, especially for my bad back.
