Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rust-Oleum 203005 Garage Floor Kit, GrayCustomer Review: Pretty Good - May buy it again Summary: 4 Stars
If you are envisioning a glassy showroom finish like the shellac on top of the neighborhood bar, put that out of your mind now.
It looks pretty much like ordinary paint, albiet bumpier with the chips spread on it.
My biggest complaint is the enormous price tag-- I got this kit for over $[...] at Menards and only had a small "single car sized room", the kit only covered a little over half of it, leaving me heading back to the store. So my cost ended up being over $[...] bucks- a bit pricy for a paint job you still have to do yourself. There are two buckets in the box but I found bucket 1 in the box only 3/4 full so the kit is really just 1 meansly gallon of paint.
I may also be a bit biased as I chose my own color (there is a kit where you can mix whatever color you like, and I thought grey would look too much like plain concrete). When I checked out my half-done floor in the morning with the new color and the speckles it just reminded me of vomit........bad pick but I guess I'm stuck with it unless I want to spend another $[...] and redo the whole thing with another color.
The job was a bit messier than I expected, I had some "hairline" cracks that had to have several coats though. I had originally tried a crack sealant in the prep but that didn't level flat when it dried, so I ended up scraping all that up (sighh) and just going with the epoxy, as many crack sealants for concrete are epoxy anyway.
As far as durability, that remains to be seen. My biggest reason for doing this was because I have a utility sink and drain hose in the middle of the concrete floor, and what with mixing and painting and cleaning the original painted floor had all come up, looking terrible. My hopes are that this will endure the rigours of home tasks and hold its vomit-color for years to come. Perhaps I will get used to it ;)-
2-16-11 UPDATE- I'm updating this review and raising it a star, its been quite some time now and despite my original frustrations the paint job has held up well. I may do a 2nd basement room to match.
