Tools and Hardware Reviews of Rust-Oleum 206540 Chalkboard Brush-On, Black, 30-Ounce

Customer Review: Works great. Use more coats and 600 grit sandpaper
Summary: 5 Stars

I applied this after a few coats of the magnetic primer. I put on about 4 coats. The finish is rough and would be a pain to use chalk on, but the trick is to use 600 grit sandpaper afterwards (hence the extra coats). The sandpaper will smooth it out and make it easier to write and magnets will stick a bit better (if you used the primer). Not smooth as the chalkboard from school, but usable.

Customer Review: Fun, but erasability is marginal
Summary: 3 Stars

After painting the sides of an Ikea Kura bed (I sanded the surface first), I waited for 3 days, and then did what the instructions said (prepared it for chalk by rubbing over the whole surface with the side of the chalk, and erasing). Maybe my expectations were too high, but it's not like a regular chalkboard in terms of erasability. It takes a lot of rubbing before it's erased for good.

Customer Review: Works as intended, be sure to sand
Summary: 4 Stars

This stuff works, just make sure your surface is smooth. For a wall that has been painted several times, perhaps by cheap labor before you owned the home, you should heavily sand the area of wall you intend to paint and maybe even coat it with plaster to get a new wall surface.
If it's rough you can't really write/draw anything small and it's really hard to erase.

Customer Review: Rustoleum specialty chalkboard paint- Black
Summary: 5 Stars

I was very pleased with this product. The price was a little high but was worth it considering the price of buying a new chalkboard. I took a half inch piece of plywood that was 4x8 and primed it with white primer twice. Then I painted it with the chalkboard paint twice and waited 3 days. It works great and the kids love it!

Customer Review: Works just like it says
Summary: 4 Stars

I painted a cabinet with this paint, on top of magnetic primer and it looks great. Looks slightly bumpy, but that is most likely from the roller I used to put it on. Super fast and easy to use, though it seems like it might be a bit stubborn to erase. Overall, a good product and now I have a nice looking chalkboard wall.
