Try Google-ing Ryobi 10532, and then do some reading about this saw. People who know a little something about chainsaws seem to agree that this is a very good little chainsaw. Guys that take chainsaws apart and make them better and then put them back together and use them seem pretty impressed with this little chainsaw.
Spend a little more than a hundred dollars on a chainsaw, and see what you get. You'll get junk. New or used, a hundred doesn't buy much chainsaw. I bought a reconditioned Ryobi with the understanding that recon doesn't mean new. Maybe I'll have to fiddle with it slightly, maybe it'll need a part, maybe it's lunched, and needs to be returned. I did my homework and bought mine from a place with a good return policy. I got lucky, and got a sweet little saw. I changed the fuel line, and put a better bar and chain on it, and it'll outcut a whole store full of $300 saws. It'll outcut some $400 saws.
It's a free market. You can buy a $150 saw at a home center and get junk. You can buy a $300 saw at a dealer and get an OK saw with a warranty. Or you can spend a little over a hundred on a reconditioned saw, and maybe you'll get a good one, and have a very good platform to build on.
Don't buy the recon saw for a hundred and then get indignant if it's not new. New saws are widely available, but not for a hundred. Don't cheap out and then pretend that you got ripped off. Don't buy the recon saw and then find out that you can't return it if it's a turkey. You don't get something for nothing, there's no free lunch.
The Ryobi 10532 is a rebadged Redmax GZ400. It's a solidly built, well-designed saw with a proper, honest-to-god magnesium split crankcase (meaning it can be disassembled and rebuilt) and a Japanese-made Zenoah cylinder. The plastic bodywork is slightly cheesy, and likely done in China. It's a good saw in a cheap wrapper. The reconditioned ones apparently stem from the big Eastern US ice storm of 2007. People went to the home centers, and bought the least expensive chainsaw available, the Ryobi 10532, intending to return them when finished cleaning up from the storm. They cleared their properties, and returned the saws, used, in droves, saying they were unsatisfied. The home centers took the saws back, refunded their customers' monies, and sent the saws back to be refurbished.
There you have it- good saw + low price + dishonest people = good saw, lower price for me. I just traded the Ryobi to a friend for a saw worth 3 times what I paid. We're both knowledgeable about chainsaws, and we're both happy with the trade, but I'm going to miss my little Ryobi.
