Tools and Hardware Reviews of Factory-Reconditioned Ryobi ZRTS1342L 10-Inch Compound Miter Saw with LaserCustomer Review: Reconditioned Ryobi Miter Saw Review Summary: 5 Stars
This is quite a saw for the price. Mine showed only minimal signs of being factory reconditioned. I did not like the fact that the body of the saw is stamped "RECON" but, that has absolutely no effect on performance of the saw.
I like to keep my tools in good condition. This tool came with almost NO signs of having been sent back to the factory. This saw is perfect for the home user. Combined with the versatility of the saw and its' low price, it pays for itself in just a few projects around the house.
It came with a nice sharp blade and was ready to use out of the box. I also received this saw via FEDEX. Delivery was fast and painless. I made several practice cuts with the saw (just as the manual suggests) and it is extrememly accurate. I will NEVER own a power tool like this again without a laser tool. EVER! I also found that the turntable moves back and forth with ease. My old saw took two hands to move from 45 degrees rgith to 45 degrees left. Smooth movement on this one!
If you are looking for a quality tool with a good warranty (one year), for realtively little money, this is the tool for you! Caution: Wear eye protection when using this saw (as with ANY power saw).
Customer Review: This is customer service! Summary: 5 Stars
I can't say a whole lot about the product, but CPO's customer service is absolutely incredible! Every other company on the planet could learn from CPO about how to do it right. I purchased this saw as a Christmas present for my son-in-law. It arrived in a nice shipping box, so I wrapped it without opening it. When my son-in-law opened his gift, he was ecstatic - it was just what he wanted; then when he began removing the saw from the shipping container he discovered the handle was shattered. I was devastated and certainly not looking forward to the hassle of a return - especially over the Internet and with Fedex right after Christmas. I called CPO the next morning and the customer service rep's attitude was outrageous - he apologized and, while he had me on the phone, arranged for another saw to be shipped. He then e-mailed me a return shipping label for the broken saw. This was just too easy! Without any hassle whatsoever the new saw arrived, Fedex picked up the broken one, and my son-in-law thinks I'm wonderful. What more could a diehard Internet shopper ask for! I can't say enough good things about the company, CPO in Georgia!
Customer Review: Excellent value for money Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this on sale at Amazon for $79.99, a real bargain. The saw works fine and has the usual adjustments for angle of cut both vertical and horizontal. The laser guide is useful but only works inside as daylight is too bright to see it. Thus working outside on a project one cannot use the laser.
A minor annoyance is the reason I bought this is that I own a Ryobi battery tool kit including a mitre saw - but I burned out 2 batteries (at $60 each) using the mitre saw as the power drain on the battery pack was too high. All the other tools work fine off the battery packs. I had hoped that the reconditioned Ryobi would fit right onto the rolling work box that came with the Ryobi kit. Alas no - so the first job for the reconditioned tool was to make an insert for the box to allow me to mount the reconditioned saw in place. I used some spare floorbaords, sawn to fit and glued. The saw then mounted onto this insert deck. This worked fine, but it would have been nice if the bolt holes had been in the same location allowing me to slot it in directly.
Customer Review: Great Value Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a beginning woodworker. I'm starting to build my inventory of tools. I liked this saw because I was able to purchase what is basically a new miter saw at half price. So far the only negative I see is that the instructions are a bit hard to follow. It would be helpful if in the instructions they had a extra large blown up diagram that explains all the parts.
I've yet to actually use the saw and I will post an update when I do.
UPDATE; I used the saw this spring and summer. The first thing I did was build a wooden base for it so that I could mount it on my Rockwell Jawhorse. The base works very well and improves the performance of the unit. I then used it to build some shelves in a storage barn. I am very impressed with the power this unit has. It cut down my building time a lot and saved me a bunch of work. I continued to use it throughout the season for small projects where angles had to be cut. I am very pleased with my purchase and am wondering how I managed without it in the past. It's well worth what I paid for it.
Customer Review: Hard to change blade and guard is an issue Summary: 3 Stars
I've had two of these (lost one in Katrina) and I know another person who has one. We've all had the same problem. We lost our blade guard the first time we tried to change a blade. In order to change the blade you need to unscrew the nut that holds the spring loaded guard to the blade housing. Undo it completely and you suddenly find yourself with a handful of parts you have no clue how to reassemble. The blade guard also has a lot of horizontal wobble to it, enough so that if your wood binds and shifts it to one side or the other, the blade will eat into the interior of the plastic and cause it to hang. It is a shame that Ryobi doesn't put a little more forethought into these details because otherwise it is a nice little saw for home/hobby use. If you are wondering why I bought another, it was because I figured I'd be getting rid of it before I had to change the blade and the price was right...then there is the "devil you know". From what I have read they have a similar issue with an unstable plastic guard on their table saw.
