When you try punching through leather with this tool, the punch wants to move to the next punch setting. It is a flaw in the design of the locking wheel. I guess they wanted to make it simple for people switching punch sizes, but that easy switching is a detriment to the punch. The punch will move off center, so when appling force you are not using all of the punch bit making it difficult to get a good accurate hole, or get a clean hole for that matter. I am not punching anything more than leather belts, FYI. I would recommend buying a fixed punch style, and save your money by not buying this model. I have a suggestion for a modification of this tool, but of course suggestions don't come free :)Customer Review: Packs a Punch

Having several belts, etc. that needed an extra hole (or two!) I did some on-line research to identify something that could do the trick, without costing a (w)hole lot of cash - since this is a gadget that won't be in daily use. I looked at several punches, and read the varying reviews on them; but in the end I selected this "PROFESSIONAL" puncher. I'm glad I did. It does a very good job, although you may need to use some extra exertion/punch to pierce through a thick leather belt. The punch is solidly made, easy to use, and has a good selection of various-sized punch holes. The only negative I could spot is the relatively flimsy safety catch. We ordered this item and the cheaper hole punch was sent to us. Thinking it was an error, we ordered it again only to again receive the cheaper punch--again. At first it seemed that it would be easy to get a refund. But, two weeks passed after we returned the first item and Amazon claimed not to have received it. It was quite a fight to finally get our refund. We never got the correct item and fear that many people may also get the cheaper item and just not realize it. We will never order again from etoolscity or from Amazon. Very disappointed!! What cheaters!!!Customer Review: Solid and great price.

This product does exactally what it says on the tin. It's well made from strong metal. The punching action is simple and smooth. I had a pretty thick belt which I needed some extra holes on and it did them with ease. The handles are good for the odd punch here and there, but if this is a tool you are going to use for extended periods of time, you might want to put a better grip on it.
The price that I paid made this item a steal, so anything under $10 is a bargain I think.
Overall - Pleased with the product, did exactally what I wanted!

I just bought this today, and it doesn't work well for me. I do a lot of leather crafts, and I couldn't even get it to cut a thin piece of leather. The anvil (I'm assuming that's what it is...this circular piece of metal that the punch meets when you squeeze) gets in the way...the punch cuts the top of the leather just fine, but does not cut all the way through to the bottom. If the anvil was out of the way and the punch went through the hole the anvil is attached into, perhaps that would work. I'll be returning this item.
