Tools and Hardware Reviews of SE Wireless Motion Sensor Light - 10 Super-Bright LED

Customer Review: Useless for a typical home setting
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this product for its motion sensor feature and the flat-mount design. The motion sensor is inadequate: it has too narrow an aperture of detection, and it activates even in daylight indoors and outdoors. What's the point of that? Three AA batteries are required but not provided. Perhaps the one good feature of this product is its brightness. However, you don't want to look directly at it, so it needs to be mounted high on a vertical surface. I consider this product useless for a typical home setting.

I recommend the Sylvania 72178 Motion Activated Battery Powered Safety Light as a far superior alternative (3 AAA batteries, provided with product; less light but plenty for path lighting nevertheless; much more effective sensor which activates only in darkness; 3 mounting options: screw, magnet or adhesive. Its main limitation is the location of the sensor, but that can be overcome in most installations.

Customer Review: Works fine, not as bright as I would have liked
Summary: 3 Stars

The motion sensing works great and reliably and the unit is light and easy to install with whatever you want to use. We used some sticky backed velcro to mount it in a wardrobe where we wanted the light to come on whenever we opened the door. It works well for that but I'm disappointed in the amount of light that it gives off. It's better than nothing but nowhere near what I was expecting based on the number of LEDs in the array and from some of the reviews here on Amazon. I did try two sets of batteries from new, unopened packages just to be sure it wasn't a voltage issue but no luck.

Based on the amount of light given off I have a hard time recommending this for anything other than giving some light to a dark hallway or stairway where you just need enough light to keep you from tripping over things in the dark. I can't say that it gives a functional amount of light for a closet or a wardrobe as in our application.

Customer Review: Wouldn't buy them again
Summary: 2 Stars

I bought these lights to use as motion lights on my screened-in porch. Basically, I come in that way quite often at night and if I didn't leave the porch light on in the morning, it's too dark to see my keys. These lights are totally worthless for my purpose.
The motion sensor has no heat sensor. It's winter here, and as soon as the sun comes up those motion lights kick on and then stay on all day long, regardless of motion around them. When it gets dark, they turn off until someone walks under them.
Because they sit on all day, the batteries drain in a couple days. They also aren't very bright. They might light up the inside of a cabinet or closet pretty well, but even with two of them they don't give sufficient light for my purpose.
As stated by other reviewers, my switches are wired backwards, so "off" is actually "on" and vice versa. These are cheap little lights and you get what you pay for.

Customer Review: Great inexpensive motion light
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased 4 of these to provide light in my garage. I have them positioned overhead and they come on when my wife and I pull in and 30 seconds is enough time for us to exit the car and get into the house (the switch to turn on the garage lights is not in a convenient location). Based on my experience their motion sensing range is 4-5 feet. It is nice and bright and the light it gives off has a blue tint. They have been in place for a month and are working without problem. I would be nice if they could sense light and only come on when needed but I am still giving it 5 stars because the product is not designed to do that. This is a great product for the price.

(Update 11/28) I recently came back to buy a few more of these lights but it appears that they have almost doubled in price. Though I like the product I would not pay more than $9-10 for them.

Customer Review: Very good, not too expensive
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm very pleased with this light. We bought it because our refrigerator light has died on us (and no, replacing the bulb didn't help). Rather than spend $200 to have a technician come out and fix it, I just decided to try this $10 light. Works like a charm! When the fridge door opens, it senses the motion (probably senses the change in light more), and turns on.

I have a few nit-picks, though:
- The light is a little larger than I imagined. It's pretty bulky. I'd imagine that it could be made smaller, but not for this cheap.
- The light it emits is pretty good, but nothing stellar.
- I wish I could have at least a couple choices for how long the light remained on. It goes off a little too quickly for me.

Other than that I think it works well. I'll be ordering a couple more, including one for our hidden litter box :)
