Tools and Hardware Reviews of SOG Specialty Knives & Tools MicronCustomer Review: First time SOG owner speaks Summary: 5 Stars
Like I said, I became a first-time owner of SOG knives when I purchased this knife and a larger knife from Amazon.
Thoughts on this knife:
Size:
It's a small knife. Like its the size of my pinky. BUT, that's exactly what I needed for a knife to be held on a keychain. So, if you are disappointed by the size, I should ask that you consider your own needs for the knife. If you want it to hang out with your keys, then this is a perfect fit. The knife will not seem like an obstruction in your key-chain. It's unobtrusive.
Blade itself:
It's sharp. I read another review that commented that the blade was dull. I did not have this problem. I found the blade to be scary sharp. Never imagined a knife that small to be that sharp.
Locking mechanism:
It's a key chain knife, I mean really. For a knife this size, AGAIN, evaluate what you want to do with it (what you need it to do). Are you going to try and gut a deer with it? NO. This knife can be used to do a little whittling, opening envelopes, cutting tape, etc. It DOESN'T NEED a locking mechanism. The knife handle is so small that trying to effectively "stab" something is utterly pointless. You use it to do little things. I would think that simple common sense would be adequate to evaluate what can be done with this knife and what shouldn't be done with the knife (like gut a deer or other big game). :-)
Material/finish:
Simple and unpretentious is how I would describe the finish of the knife. The material seems to be...of a metallic nature (yes, that was a joke!). I'm not an expert on metal alloys/knife alloys, but I do know that SOG has a reputation. Again, I don't expect this knife to punch through steel or cut timber. It's not meant for it. So, yes, I think the quality of the blade is adequate and from my testing it (cardboard, paper, plastic, cloth) it does just fine.
