All you can say for this product is that it doesn't stink and doesn't hurt your skin particularly. I used it to try to remove one layer of black enamel (probably oil base) and the underlying varnish from an old chair. I slathered it on and waited about 24 hours. By then it had dried excessively so I slathered on some more and waited a couple of hours. It turned the paint and varnish into an unbelievably sticky goo (remember Brer Rabbit and the Tarbaby?) which defied scraping. Armed with a chore-boy type scrubber and water laced with a powerful detergent, I managed to scour most of the stuff off. It took forever to scrub, rinse, find more sludge, scrub, rinse..., and the chair is totally unsuitable for applying a clear finish. Since I intend to paint it anyway I'm hoping it will hold paint at least.
Conventional solvent-based remover is much faster and far more effective. If the Ready Strip approach were any good, it would have been on the market long ago. The reason that the standard solvent-type remover is so common and has been around so long is that it does work. Somehow I missed the "as seen on TV" label, or I would have realized that I was buying paint remover as likely to remove paint as a Vegematic is to dice a tomato.
