Tools and Hardware Reviews of Schlage FE595VCAM619ACC Camelot Keypad Accent Lever Door Lock, Satin NickelCustomer Review: The ONLY ONE you should buy!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I am a gadget guy. I own a lot of them. I bought my first lock of this type in 1995, It was made by quickset and had a single lit number on it that you adjusted by turning the door knob left and right until the correct number appeared in the window. it was well made and lasted until I moved. When I got to my new house in 2003, I went looking for the same lockset w/o any luck...they stopped making them. I ended up with a lockset that was much like this one (and more expensive @ the time). Unfortunately this one failed within a year (when it was below zero). I bought several more over the years with similar failures. When Schlage came out with this lock I was very excited, knowing their excellent repetition. I have had this lockset for 2 years w/o any problems (including on freezing days). The battery life has not been a problem (lasting a year in my busy household). I bought my daughter one and would recommend it w/o reservation.
Customer Review: Wonderful! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased two of these locks for indoor use about six months ago. I got them to replace some fingerprint locks that didn't work very well for my wife (BIOLOCK 333 SN-BK Biometric Fingerprint Entry Lever Door Lock with Remote Control, Satin Nickel with Black Accent). These locks, on the other hand, are sturdy, well built and work flawlessly (when the correct code is entered). The batteries have held up just fine and aren't showing any signs of needing replacing yet. However, to be fair to the other reviewers who have had trouble with battery life, we don't access these locks every day. There is a button on the top that will light up the keys. This can be handy in semi-dark conditions. What more can I say? Security without keys. My wife and I love these locks. They look great, too.
Customer Review: Really liked this until it stopped working Summary: 3 Stars
I had all the same positive reactions listed by others when I installed this. After I had been using it about six months, the 1-4 digits stopped working - when I pressed them nothing at all happened, though all the other buttons worked. This was intermittent for a while and then they quit altogether, taking me back to using a key. I called Schlage and was told that they recommend replacing the batteries every three months. Wonderful! Anyhow, I replaced the battery and guess what?! Now none of the buttons work at all! I have messed with the connections and all, but have been unable to revive it. So how do you send a lock in for repair? Just leave your door unprotected when you send it in? Anyhow, I misplaced my receipt, so I'm totally out of luck. I guess I'm just back to living with fishing out my key every time I need to get in.
Customer Review: Buh-bye keys Summary: 5 Stars
I bought my first Schlage keyless lock a little over a year ago (for my one house) from Home Depot. It is super nice to leave the house and not have to worry about having your keys on you (my car key is not on with the rest of my keys). When I would go to the other house and have a handfull of stuff... I'd have to fudge around to find my keys. I'd always say to myself I should get another one of these keyless jobs... so one day I just did! Looked on Amazon and found that they were about the price as the home improvment stores (less the sales tax) so I bought my 2nd one here. I programmed the same codes from my 1st one into the 2nd one. Adding and deleting codes is so simple... a cave man could do it! Seriously though its the bee's knees. I would recommend the Schlage in a heartbeat.
Customer Review: Update on Battery Life Summary: 3 Stars
The other reviews have covered the product very well, so I am just commenting on the battery life. My 9 volt battery that came with the lock lasted 1 month. I just assumed it had been sitting in the package and was near it's exp. date. The 2nd battery I installed was a fresh Everyready Alkaline 9 volt. It lasted a total of 4 months. There are only 3 family members in my house, so I don't think it is a matter of heavy use.
My point is that 4 months is a long way from the 3 years advertised so consider this when you are thinking of getting this lock.
4/5/09 Another update...3rd battery lasted less than 1 week and when it failed the door sat unlocked all day, not good. Will contact Schlage for replacement, but do not like to have to return things and pay shipping
