Tools and Hardware Reviews of Schlage FE595VCAM619ACC Camelot Keypad Entry Lever Door Lock, Satin Nickel

Customer Review: Classy looks, Easy to install and GREAT customer support from Schlage!
Summary: 5 Stars

When I first installed the lockset it wasn't working properly. I called Schlage's customer support and was connected to a technician (John) who helped me figure out that it was missing a tiny spring. He plucked up a extra spring from his workbench and mailed it to me right away. I had the lockset up and running within 15 minutes of receiving the part! It works like a champ and looks great.
Mistakes happen, it could have been defective from manufacture, or it may have been lost when the seller's source opened the package...Either way, Schlage remedied the problem in no time at all. I don't mind a mistake when it's corrected so efficiently.

Customer Review: Not Happy
Summary: 1 Stars

This was the first time I had ordered a product from an on-line company. The product I received was used and damaged and I payed for a new item. At first the company was nice, and was suppose to send me UPS labels to return the items, that was a month ago, and still have not received the UPS labels to return the items. I have been in email contact with them and made sure they had the correct mailing address. The only reason I ordered from this company was because of the great rating on Amazon.com. The company is "Ineedstufforders", will update on the out come after I have to pay to have a damaged, used item returned and I get my refund.

Customer Review: Update on Battery Life
Summary: 3 Stars

The other reviews have covered the product very well, so I am just commenting on the battery life. My 9 volt battery that came with the lock lasted 1 month. I just assumed it had been sitting in the package and was near it's exp. date. The 2nd battery I installed was a fresh Everyready Alkaline 9 volt. It lasted a total of 4 months. There are only 3 family members in my house, so I don't think it is a matter of heavy use.
My point is that 4 months is a long way from the 3 years advertised so consider this when you are thinking of getting this lock.

4/5/09 Another update...3rd battery lasted less than 1 week and when it failed the door sat unlocked all day, not good. Will contact Schlage for replacement, but do not like to have to return things and pay shipping

Customer Review: Nice lock, but...
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased and installed the lock, it only took a half-hour at most. I got it working and love it. My ONLY concern is when I need to change the battery even though the directions state that the battery will last up to three years. The holding post that holds the key side of the lock (the entry side) doesn't seem to me to be very secure and I fear that the lock side will fall off when I take off the house side to change the battery. Of course, that is three years from now, but I think it is a valid concern since the lock is only held by friction of the post. I wish that Schlage had used a nut to secure the lock to the door instead of the mechanism is uses here. Other than that, I am very happy.

Customer Review: Great Convenience & security
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought two of these and installed them myself with very little trouble (single woman not all that handy!). One of the doors was a brand new totally 'standard' door and the strikeplate that was included was not the right shape though I made it fit ok. I was just surprised that it did not fit out of the box. Not a big deal at all though. The hardest part was getting the right shape plate on it- you have to pry pretty hard and I worried I would damage it.
I was really excited about not needing to dig out my key when I get home (my car does not require a key either) and that aspect is as nice as I had hoped. But I also like that it is perfectly convenient to leave the door locked at all times so you don't have to worry whether you forgot to lock it after coming in from checking the mail for example. And you do not have to worry that you will lock yourself out either. I struggled with whether to get the keypad on the deadbolt or the handle and ended up with this one because it seemed like you might need 2 hands to open the door if you get the keypad on the deadbolt. Their website makes it sound like that is safer for an exterior door though... not sure why. I added a double cylender deadbolt too so suspect that is fine.
I love the look of the curved handle but one of my doors is hard to open (unrelated to the handle/locks) and the shape of the handle makes it harder to open and close compared to a knob. Hopefully I can fix that separate problem but if your doors are tight it might be something to consider.
The satin nickel finish is beautiful and is consistent with other satin nickel things in my home. This item is carried by Home Depot and Lowe's if you want to see it before buying...
