Tools and Hardware Reviews of Sensible Solutions 3020 Storm Shield 20-Foot Garage Door ThresholdCustomer Review: poor quality cement Summary: 3 Stars
After having a new 15' garage door installed in my workshop, I purchased a 16' Storm Shield garage door threshold kit to keep out rainwater from seeping in underneath the door. I found the rubber threshold itself to be of very good quality, but, the two tubes of cement (around 4 - 6 oz. tubes) that came with it were hard to use. That is, I found it difficult to squeeze out the beads of cement fast enough along the threshold's entire length before they began to harden - i.e. outer layer of cement skinned over. It would have been much better if the company provided a large enough tube of cement that one could apply with a caulking gun. Also, if you lay down the cement according to the tight pattern shown in the instructions, you will not have enough cement for the entire length of threshold. In spite of the fact that I spread the cement as evenly as I could and then rolled the top of the threshold to adhere it to the concrete floor, a small amount of rainwater leaked under the threshold a week later. I've since fixed this by caulking the outside edge of the threshold with GE Silicone II caulking compound.
If you're going to use this product, I suggest that you discard the cement supplied with it. Then purchase a large tube of Liquid Nails and apply it quickly with a manual caulking gun. For added waterproofing you might add an additional bead of a silicone caulking compound under the outside edge of the threshold before you turn it over and position it on the floor of your garage. In preparation for this job I clean the area of the concrete floor well with detergent and clean water rinses. After the floor has dried, I'll lay down a chalk line denoting the outer edge of the threshold. Finally, I apply masking tape along this chalk line. This tells me where the threshold's outside edge should be and later allows me to trim off the hardened, excess silicone compound with a razor blade or utility knife. This excess caulking will then come away with the masking tape and leave a nice attractive edge on the outside of your new threshold.
Customer Review: Works well and keeps out the bugs Summary: 4 Stars
Reading some of the other reveiws it seems most are pretty satisfied with this product; as am I. I installed this item about 18 months ago in my garage and recently bought another and installed it in my parents garage. In both cases, the glue supplied with the kit was adequate (my garage is a 2 1/2 car and my parents is a 2 car garage). Ensure you clean the surface of the garage where this item is to be installed to ensure you get a good bond the first time. I scrubbed with a good stiff brush and some soapy detergent water, then rinsed with a powerwasher. I found the easist thing to do for installation was to trace the inside of the garage door (while down)then trace the outside of the garage door (once again while down) so you end up with two lines on the ground, then I placed the strip down on the ground and closed the garage down once again - to ensure the strip was where it needed to be; between the lines and in-line with the garage door seal (only took minimal adjustments). Once I was happy with the placement, I then traced around the strip, pulled it up and applied the adhesive to the ground and a bead straight down the center of the strip (backside). After all of that I installed it and Voila - instant barrier against water leakage, bugs and even wind. I work a lot in my garage and have noticed a tremendous difference in air leakage or should I say - lack thereof.
It's a simple project for the DIYer, cost effective, and saves you time if you're into keeping your garage floor relatively clean. I would suggest (which i believe the instructions do as well) not to drive over it for about 24-36 hours.
Customer Review: Good stuff! Summary: 4 Stars
This is by far the best deal anywhere on this product. Twenty feet of rubberized threshold was fairly easy to cut in half and then use on my two garage doors. There was barely enough adhesive caulking--be sure to cut the tip near the top and then puncture the top of the tube. I cut my plastic tim a bit too big. You should have a thin layer of caulking, not a thick line's worth. You'll be caught a bit short and excess material will be pushed out onto the garage floor--another unnecessary issue to deal with.
This product looks good. I have one garage door that seems to have let a small puddle of water into the garage after some heavy rains and assume this has more to do with perhaps an unlevel garage flooring moreso than with the threshold or its installation. There was also one area where it doesn't fully seal because part of the rubber strip on the bottom of the garage door has been cut off, so that will need to be fixed up a bit even with the threshold in place. The instructions for installation were good, the product seems well made, and it seems to be all that it says it is.
Customer Review: EXCELLENT PRODUCT Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this product because of a water issue under my garage door (at both ends) when it rained. I did have it professionally installed by the folks who installed the garage door itself. I have been extremely happy with the results - a perfectly dry garage floor. I have read feedback from others who have purchased this product regarding the amount of glue sent with the product (not enough)- I ended up with glue left over, but was advised by the installers to leave the garage door in the down position for at least 24 hours before raising it. I left it down for a couple of days just to be sure and the Storm Shield is stuck down very tight. This product certainly solved my problem. Glad I purchased it.

Customer Review: Dry garage Summary: 5 Stars
After replacing garage door weatherstrip and still having water get in I was at the point of moving everything away from the path of leaking water....I installed this product with the help of my husband and then we had three days of rain, no water gets into the garage now! A great product and it really does work, make sure you use the included glue wisely you only get so much but we bought this product for three garage doors and had plenty.
I highly recomend this for anyone having water getting into their garage under the garage door weatherstrip.Sensible Solutions 3016 Storm Shield 16-Foot Garage Door Threshold
