Reading some of the other reviews I was prepared to have a flimsy metal cabinet arrive that locked. But the second I picked up the box from the UPS driver I knew it was more substantial then that. It has a solid construction and is better then some of those other cheap "Gun Safes" you can buy (We we all know are really just "Gun Cabinets").
It really does hold 5 long guns! The shelf is located away from the back wall so your long barrels will actually stick up past the shelf just fine. I'm sure this is not fire or water proof, but it will keep people away from your firearms. I think it would put up a good fight for a burglar if you bolt it to the floor and wall.
The Bad: It's pretty large for shipping, and I had some nicks in the paint on the corners from handling. And my door was not attached at one hing, but that just took a second to pop back in. All in all, it's nice to have a safe place for my firearms and it looks nice in the back of a closet.
Do the world a favor, and make sure you lock up ALL your guns. Buy this now if you're someone that has guns sitting under your bed... you'll feel better and it's the right thing to do. I paid $150 for this safe here on Amazon with free shipping. For that price, you just can't go wrong.

I purchased this safe in anticipation of my first long gun purchase and must say that although I haven't stocked it yet I am very pleased with the overall quality.
I worried before buying this that the corners would be susceptible to prying since the locking bolts are centrally located. However, this worry was washed away by the beefy, heavy gauge metal and the fact that the door is recessed and reinforced with two vertical U-channels (the photos here depict the door incorrectly).
Added to the rigidity of the safe is the significant weight and availability of wall and floor mounting holes. I'm confident that nobody will be walking off with my safe unless they cut into it with a torch or saw out big sections of wall and floor. In the extremely unlikely case that someone could get it unseated they wouldn't make it far due to the significant weight of the safe.
If you are looking to lock up a couple rifles or shotguns, you can't beat this Sentry safe. Don't settle for similarly priced Stack-on "safes" with chintzy sheet metal locking mechanisms and flimsy metal walls. Barring the kind of shipping damage that others have experienced I don't think you'll be disappointed with this safe for your budding long gun collection.

I was looking for a decent safe to store my firearms without spending a lot of money that I do not have. I looked around on-line and also the local outdoor/sporting goods stores in my area. Most of the stores carried another brand in the same price range as this one, but the quality was not as good. The metal gauge they used was a little more flimsy and the locking mechanism didn't seem very secure. I happened to see this one on Amazon and for the price, the free shipping, and the positive reviews, I couldn't go wrong. The size was perfect for my closet. I bolted it to a stud in my wall for extra security.
I have found only two drawbacks so far (when you don't fork out a $500 - $1000 for a safe you're bound to find some drawbacks right?). The top shelf could be deeper. There is about a three inch gap from the back of the shelf to the back of the safe. This limits shelf storage space to one pistol and about five or six boxes of ammo. Also because the lock works with a key and not a combination, the other drawback is trying to find a good hiding spot for one of the keys that is near the safe, but not easy for thieves and children to find.
Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase. It was just what I was looking for.

I read the reviews and used common sense before ordering and was not disappointed. My main concern in buying this item was to keep guns and ammunition from getting into the hands of children and most burglars.
I you are looking for a "real" safe, you'll find that ALL of them are much heavier and much more expensive. This cabinet is made of a decent gauge metal and has a decent lock. If you screw it to your wall, it becomes pretty theft-resistant.
I do agree with most who aren't the most thrilled with the shelf. If you have really long guns, it may be a good thing that the shelf has a gap in the back, but my rifles don't need that extra room. I'll probably cut out a new shelf from some plywood and make it fit the full dimensions of the inside of the cabinet. That way, I can put a lot more on it and won't ahve to worry about stuff falling off the back side of the shelf.
As best I can tell, this is about the most secure long gun storage option out there short of spending many hundreds more on a heavier and more secure "real" safe.

I bought this unit in order to keep an AR15 system=(two uppers) and a defensive shotgun readily accessible. Previously, I had hidden the AR in a wall compartment that took some effort to access and the shotgun in a larger safe. I mounted this safe in a corner making it difficult to insert a pry bar. I also acquired much more effective hardware to bolt it in place. The safe is well constructed. It was in perfect condition, securely boxed(very likely, thanks to reviewers who complained of damaged units resulting form inadequate packing) and arrived with keys, mounting accessories and instructions.
Several reviews have commented that their safes arrived damaged-evoking the ire of at least one commenter who, unaccoutably, did not consider mention of inadequate packaging to be appropriate. Apparently somebody was paying attention. My safe was double-boxed, foam padded and wrapped in plastic sheathing.
