Tools and Hardware Reviews of SentrySafe H4100 FIRE-SAFE Waterproof File, 1175 Cubic Inches, Silver GrayCustomer Review: Find something else Summary: 1 Stars
The first one I bought had the keys locked inside which should have been my hint. But I got another and this thing is really not well made or designed. The hinge on top is very weak, when you open it you can see the plastic around the hinge starting to bend and it looks and feels like it is about to separate if you push it a little bit. I didn't try my luck and held onto it to make sure the lid didn't flop down and fall off. And despite the claim that it is designed to hold hanging files it does not. The opening is too narrow, you had to twist the folders to get them to go in. (NOT the 12 inches they claim I measured mine at around 11 1/2 inches.) And it is not deep enough either. the folders drag on the bottom and did not hang off the sides like they are supposed to. I tried 3 different brands of folders and none of them fit so I know it isn't just the folders I had.
Maybe I will try the FIrst Alert brand one, it has to be better than this.
Customer Review: Made in the USA? Summary: 1 Stars
Don't waste your time on this piece of junk. The picture on the box clearly shows hanging file folders, but they are not included. Worse, there's a warning sticker inside the lid advising that the H4100 should NOT be used to store combustibles! Aren't paper files combustible? I guess that's why they don't give you the file folders. Additionally, the latch was jammed with (what looked like) furnace cement. It took ten minutes of careful scraping and several squirts of WD-40 just to get the latch to work. Then, I noticed that inside bottom of the safe was cracked. Couldn't touch it though, because I might have cut myself on several inches of razor-sharp mold flash. Another few minutes cutting that away with a razor knife. Shame on the people who put this thing together. The final insult - this piece of junk is allegedly made in the USA. If so, God help us!
Customer Review: I like mine Summary: 5 Stars
The first thing I had to do was put this thing on the floor and instead of pushing on the top with one's hand like the directions advise, I instead got over the top of it and pushed with my knee on the top, while simultaneously unlocking the latch. THAT was what opened it for me.
Once you get it open, READ the enclosed pamphlet that tells you to put pressure on the top of it every time you open it. Remember that tidbit of info.
It takes quite a bit of pressure to get this safe to unlock, due to the rubber gasket around the edge of the lid that makes it waterproof.
After that, you should be good to go.
I'm trying to decide where to put mine. I have a big can of flowers sitting in the corner of my den, I think if I turn this thing around facing the wall, it'll make a nice little pedestal for the flowers.
Customer Review: Great price for a quality item. Summary: 5 Stars
I was very pleased when I promptly recieved my item in the mail. It made a perfect Christmas gift, and was a remarkable value. Amazon shipped the item quickly, and it was well packaged. We have not had any problems with the item, the only downside is that it is a pretty tight squeeze for hanging file folders. You can make it work, and it appears that it will keep your belongings safe, but it is a little tight if you want to file a bunch of papers away.
Recommendation. Minimize the paper you have to store by scanning documents and saving them on an external harddrive that you can then place in the box. That was the other half of my Christmas gift, and I think it makes for sensible security!
Customer Review: Sentry Safe H4100 Top Fell Off Summary: 1 Stars
This thing broke within 10 minutes. The lid was open, and when i barely touched the side of the safe, the lid fell backwards and onto the floor. It seemed to be secured to the body the same way most toilet dispenser rolls are placed into the wall; some kind of spring loaded action. Though both the lid and the frame of the same were made from plastic, and it appeared to have an air bubble which messed up the fit of the lid into the frame. Needless to say, I returned it. Amazon gave me no problems, and I easily received a full refund on my credit card. I think this product was just faulty, and I still plan to buy a safe from Amazon, though I will go with a different brand.
