I live in the suburbs of a large city in Northeast US. We have a lot of mature landscaping in our area, which makes it very appealing for wildlife of all sorts. About two months ago, two skunks moved into our neighborhood. I am an animal lover, but after a few close run-ins by my neighbor and I with the skunks (I almost stepped on one going out my front door!), I decided to find a way to encourage them to stay away from my home area. I have a dog, and based on their proximity and frequency (we were seeing them on a daily basis), it was inevitable that I and my dog would end up with skunk spray which is not good. I did not want to hurt them, just did not want for them to feel so comfortable in the immediate area.
I did some research on the internet, and found out about this product. I would never use chemicals to hurt them or any animal, and this seemed like a good solution. I read the reviews, which seemed to indicate that it worked as long as you read the instructions. Needless to say, it works! I have not seen the skunks since the first day that I put it out. Previously, we were seeing them daily!
It's been about 4 weeks since I started using it. It comes in a plastic can that looks almost like a parmesan cheese container. It opens just like that, too. You are supposed to shake it out lightly around your property. Since I didn't think that the skunks were living in my yard (I could smell them in the next block when I walked my dog each morning, so I think that they live there), I used it around my property line. You are supposed to use it twice a week for two weeks and then twice a week after that. It worked great with the skunks. And, my dog (who is a Beagle and has a very sensitive nose) didn't seem to mind it at all, although I used it on the property line where he does not hang out often.
One point...it really stinks, so I would recommend that you keep it in an outdoor location. Also, it says that it's supposed to work on bunnies (which I didn't care about being in my yard) but I have seen two bunnies since putting it out so I don't know that it would work as well on them. But, as I said, it's been 4 weeks and no sign of the skunks. Five star rating from me!
