Customer Review: Makes Cutting In Fun!

I picked this tool up at a local hardware store thinking I can't go wrong for $4. A friend had mentioned it the day before, so I figured it was worth a try. It had taken me hours to cut in by hand, and I was exhausted. Honestly, the tool far exceeded my expectations! Another friend who paints professionally stopped by to loan me his painting lights, and he was equally blown away by the efficiency and great line the tool produced.
All that praise aside, you have to handle the edger carefully. Don't let the wheels get any paint on them. Don't overload the pad with paint. The amount of pressure you apply to the pad greatly impacts the amount of paint left in any particular spot. When the pad is first loaded with paint, don't press too hard or the paint will leak above the line you're trying to create. As the pad leaves paint on the wall, you can press in a little harder to control the line. After creating the line, go over the lower edge and wipe up excess paint with the edger pad or a paint brush if you really overloaded it. Once you get a rhythm going, you'll be amazed by how quickly it goes. It did the ceiling line and the trim around doors and windows with extreme ease. It was not useful for the trim board at the bottom. As other reviewers pointed out, the lower trim may not have enough depth to meet the wheels.
For the record, I have very little experience painting, but most of that experience has been cutting in by hand. I have a very steady hand and know how to apply pressure with control to cut in a line. That same skill makes the edging tool work so well for me.
