Tools and Hardware Reviews of Sinometer BT558 Self-powered Battery TesterCustomer Review: Great Gadget Summary: 5 Stars
This is a simple, almost foolproof device. You open the arm to touch the contacts to the battery and look at the meter. Green is good, red is bad. There are two contacts on the side for 9V batteries. The arm is configured so coin batteries can be tested too. It takes just a few seconds to test almost any kind of battery.
This device worked great. Although it's not a true "load test" it will certainly sort the live from the dead. I was able to go through dozens of batteries in just a few minutes.
I recycle dead batteries which means they accumulate until I get around to dropping them off. Nobody grabs the loose batteries out of the drawer because they don't know which ones are alive or dead. I accumulated a few dozen batteries and really needed a way to sort them out. All done!
It's hard to complain about a $6 device, but since you've read this far I figure you might be interested. I had to wiggle the 9V batteries to make contact. It still works, but you have to be careful lest you discard some good 9Vs.
Given the cost of batteries, this is a great investment.
Customer Review: save money save the world Summary: 5 Stars
I happen to keep all of my old batteries in a bag under my sink so I can take them to be recycled- I bought this because my daughter had mixed a 24 pack of new AA's with a handful of dead AA's waiting to go into the bag- After sorting the bad from the good I decided to go through my bag under the sink to see if I had mistakenly put some good ones in there- turns out half of the ones I thought were dead were actually just fine- I had taken them out of things that had been on their way out and mistook the machines faults with the battery being dead- I saved 4 times as much as the battery tester cost- Not to mention I was able to check all the batteries in my smoke alarms only to find that half of them were about to die out- Im aware they all have test buttons but who remembers to test them every month and even if the battery has enough power to make it beep that doesnt mean it will make it through the month- as easy to use as changing the channel and a little addictive when you know its saving you money and perhaps your family from getting trapped in a fire
Customer Review: No more battery guesswork Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great gadget, and it really works. A little arm swings up to accommodate the battery, you place it between the two points, and the easy to read display tells you instantly whether you have a dud, or if you can eke out another few minutes of battery life. Best of all, it can fit in your pocket, so you take it anywhere you have battery operated equipment.
One side of it handles AA, AAA, C and D batteries, and on the other side, there are two buttons for testing those pesky 9 volt batteries, so you'll have no more tingling tongues from the old fashioned "tongue between the terminals" checking method.
Don't expect any fancy packaging, or even the same color as advertised (mine is a dull yellow), but if you have kids and/or lots of battery operated gizmos and gadgets, you'll need one of these - and at the price, why not?

Customer Review: Had two of these for over 20 years Summary: 5 Stars
I originally bought these at a hardware chain in Detroit over 20 years ago. One of them just broke and because we keep one down the basement and one upstairs we want to get another. As far as not being accurate goes I found that it isn't the battery checker that is the problem it is the gadget or whatever you are needing to replace the batteries in. For instance in my Nikon camera, when it just drains a small amount it is enough to make the camera not work. I got frustrated with this happening so now I put those batteries aside since they only show a slight drain and use them in clocks a small portable radios I use around the house. They live forever in those cases, but the camera and our treadmills go through a lot of batteries that aren't really bad. These checkers are handy no two ways about it. I am going to buy at least one more from Amazon.
Customer Review: Measures SOMETHING - but what? and resolution so-so Summary: 2 Stars
This is supposed to test your batteries for good/replace-Recharge.
On the good side - it is small, and does SOMETHING.
On the not-so-good side
1. WHAT does it measure? this is not clear. There is no manual, and the
scale is unlabeled. I am *assuming* it measures voltage, but I have no
clue if this is under some sort of load or not, and so the results are
not very convincing
2. If it DOES mesure Voltage, this is not so good for Rechargeable
Batteries, as they only give out 1.2V even when fully charged.
2. The scale has strange proportions, with more than 2/3rd of it for "bad"
and only about 20% for "Good". This is not very useful.
