I looked at a few battery testers before buying this one based on the reviews on Amazon. This is a great battery tester for the price, except for one minor flaw. 3/4 of the dial is the Red ("Replace") zone, and 1/4 of the dial to the right is the Green ("Good") zone. Which means that it really doesn't distinguish too well between batteries that are fully charged and those that are about to run out of juice. I wish the display was a little more granular. I have used this handy tool for better than two years and it still keeps working. I have tested many sizes of batteries. It is small enough to fit into your pocket or camera bag. It is easy to read. You just put the battery in upright as demonstrated and the pointed arrow either reads red for dead or green for good. DOWNSIDE: it only reads if there is power left or no power. It does not tell you what percentage of power you have available for the varying voltages.Customer Review: Inaccurate as it does not test under load

The problem with this battery tester is that it only checks for voltage remaining in a battery. Even a 90% used battery can show nearly full rated voltage. It is only when a load is placed on the battery that a true assessment is possible.
For example, a dead alkaline battery and a fully charged rechargable battery (NiMH full charge = 1.2 volts) both read the same low (yellow).
Look for one of the more expensive units that tests under load.

I was really excited about this product, and when it arrived I tried it out immediately. Unfortunately, none of my brand new batteries ever scored in the yellow or green - it's like the tester couldn't register that high. I have tested them again with a new different battery tester which worked properly and it was a much different experience. I'm not sure if the one that was sent to me was just a bad egg, or if they are all too cheaply made to work properly.Customer Review: Couldn't Be Easier

I had a drawer FULL of half used batteries from mics used for some community theatre and didn't know how much was left in them. I hate to throw useful things away, so I picked this up. It works perfectly! Very simple, easy to read, no frills, just a pretty accurate battery tester. If you've got a crap load of batteries and you have NO IDEA how much juice is left pick this up. Heck, grab this with another order and get free shipping, it's a great filler item.
