Tools and Hardware Reviews of Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm System

Customer Review: Effective remote monitoring system
Summary: 5 Stars

This system is ideal if you want to be notified if there's is a break in, but don't want to pay an arm and a leg, plus your first born for the service.

It can call multiple numbers with a pre-recorded message to let your friends, family and you etc, know that there's a break in. You can set the order or frequency of calls to the programmed numbers. It can be set to silent or audible alarms and you can add vibration, smoke , temprature detector etc, modules to it.

You can set different zones to react instantly or to count down before going off. In addition you can slowly keep growing/adding on security sensors as your budget allow.

I've been using it for some months now with no problems and its real, real, easy to configure. I had one issue with it however and it's not a unique problem to the device. Be careful where you put the motion sensor or you'll get constant false alarms. Light reflecting through your windows/glass doors could set it off. Have it face inwards and away from mirrors that can 'see' the windows/glassdoors. Forgetting to turn off the ceiling fan caught me in the first few days. Apparently it was turning the pages on a magazine in some cases, and moving the curtains in the next.

Finally, it has a wide detection arc, so really think about where you are placing it(motion sensor).

Did I also mention that it uses 9volt batteries as backup power, though I am not sure how long that last or if it can recharge rechargable ones.

Customer Review: Highly functional, adapts to your specific needs.

I just finished my install on the SC1000..It works exactly as described in the literature. I called customer support with a question and a technician called me right back.

As far as the dialer discussion goes....If you have the SC1000 you dont have to register all of the sensors to the dialer seperately! You can if you want to, but you dont have too (I certainly would not reccomend this). You can simply follow the instructions and link the control panel to the dialer. Using this arrangement, the dialer will not dial unless the control panel actually goes into full alarm. As mentioned before, if the control panel does sound, and the dialer starts to dial, you must shut off the dialer seperately from the controller, but only if the alarm sounded. I like this..let the bad guys smash the control panel, and let the dialer somewhere else in the house do it's thing!
This relay arrangment also allows you to hide the dialer in a closet or somewhere out of the way where it can silently dial out to whomever.

Overall I give the system an A for functionality, and allowing itself to adapt to each installers/homeowners specific security needs. Each zone can be modified to work a different way...nice!

I would consider getting a secondary siren just so if the bad guys kill the control panel the remote siren keeps blasting away!

Worth the 160 I paid.

Customer Review: excellent service!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I had to call the service tech twice. An actual knowledgeable human being answered both times,..amazing. They both walked me thru some custum setup for my dental practice.
The best part!!! Calling ADT and telling them to pick up their crap and no more 60 bucks a month for lousy, rude service. I got this alarm because ADT was so rude to me,..they kept charging me 30bucks for false alarms due to wind. They admitted their system was faulty, but they still said they "HAD" to charge me 30 bucks extra for every false "wind" alarm. HAHA. This new system is better, zero false alarms so far..AND no monthly fees! Love it! Fun to install (electric drill, small screwdrivers, a free day) the instructions are excellent,..I think it's gonna freak out the bad guys seeing those antennas,..and hearing a hidden speaker phoning numerous phone numbers in the background. Now, instead of an unarmed ADT "guard" coming in an hour to jot down notes about the burglary that took place,..let's just say we'll jot down notes AFTER everything is OK. This is a highly recommended system,..do it yourself security,..especially since many states (California) are cutting back Police and letting criminals go back to the streets due to their budget deficits.
A Plus: you can add an endless assortment of sensors,..just "learn" them into the system. I already am going to order those cool remotes for all my trusted employees

Customer Review: System worked but not enough to avoid burglary
Summary: 4 Stars

I had installed this system at my home with 17Windows/Door sensors, Motion detector and Dialer. During morning hours there was a breakage in my house from the main door. The 45 sec entry delay gives enough time for the thieves to take my TV and Camcorder. Having this alarm makes the thieves to vacate soon and none of my other items touched, so the system helps for sure.

Though system works great, Someone looking for serious security have to look at the following drawbacks.
1) The control panel siren is not loud enough for neighbors to notice. You need to plug in external siren.
2) The control panel allows the system to arm with doors/window open.
3) There is no notification in control panel if some sensors fails.
4) Of my 17 door sensor, one was not working consistently (it works sometime and sometime not.)
5) The programming doesn't allow to eliminate the entry/exit delay. (When remote is used always to arm and disarm why should I need entry/exit delay)
6) The stickers comes with the kit is not enough to keep the thieves scare. The stickers are neither bright colored or big enough.
7) There is no yard sign comes with the kit. (I strongly believe having an yard sign could help me in avoiding the burglary. Since the thieves left the place soon after the system beep, having an yard sign would definitely make them not to try with the home.).

Customer Review: Excellent Wireless Home Alarm System
Summary: 5 Stars

This system is excellent for a home alarm system. I purchased the SC-1000 with additional motion sensors, door sensors, audio alarms, keypad control, and the alarm sensor (if the smoke detectors sound, the system will autodial).

The system was extremely easy to install and setup. The instructions were fairly easy to understand.

I have a suggestion for those who don't like the loud beep that sounds when you disarm the system... I changed one of the six arming sequences, MPINAC, to all four zones off. Instead of using MPIN# to disarm the system, just arm it with MPINAC, which will turn off all of the zones without having that loud beep.

I also have some wireless cameras that connect to my DSL wireless router, so I can view the cameras while at work and/or record them to a computer. This is in case the alarm goes off.

I attached a door sensor to the inside of my electrical box that is on the outside of the garage just in case someone wants to open it to disconnect the phone line before breaking into the house; there is an audio alarm nearby.

While you are home, you can turn the zones to chime mode to hear if any of the sensors are tripped instead of the alarm deafening you.

So far we have not had a single false alarm after 2 months of use.

This system is excellent and I recommend it to anyone.
