Tools and Hardware Reviews of Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm SystemCustomer Review: almost perfect! ....so far :) Summary: 4 Stars
got my system up and running pretty much...the only thing i wish it had was the ability to phone in from a remote location and check the status of the alarm..arm/disarm it....apparently Skylink's other system the AM-100 has a dialer which has this feature...but the tech support told me they work on different frequencies so that dialer would not work with the SC-1000 and it's sensors...if anyone knows how to accomplish this, please comment and let us know!
the price is great of course...easily expandable...there seems to be a little confusion about the external audio alarms (A-433)...apparently there are 2 different units out there---an A-433 and an A-433D which perform slightly different...i have the A-433D which came with the SC-10 I purchased to supplement the SC-1000 as others recommended....it seems to work well in tandem with the SC-1000, but others seemed to have some issues with the non-"D" version of the A-433 audio alarm...
Customer service has been quite good actually in responding to questions....email them any questions you have...they responded in under 24 hours each time I did!
also, many thanks to everybody who has left all the detailed instructions and comments here in the reviews--they are invaluable! :)
Customer Review: Saves a ton of money! Summary: 5 Stars
I was about to contract with ADT for a monitored system when I read a report from Allstate Insurance... a company like ADT, when they receive an alarm, don't call the police right away. Instead they try to call your home number, if no answer they send out one of their patrol cars, if the patrol car sees something then they call the police! The whole thing might take 45 minutes.
With the Skylink system, an alarm can dial up to 9 phone numbers. We programmed in our cell phones and the home phones of our neighbors. This self-mnitoring service is free versus $49 a month for ADT on a three-year contract and the response is much quicker.
The system installation took me the better part of four hours. The instructions were very good with the exception of one item. We installed a second keypad at our back door. The instructions didn't mention that you had to set the keypad password to the system password before installing. After some effort, I figured it out and the whole system works great.
I highly recommend this system to anyone looking at installing an alarm. They have a wide-range of sensors (flood, fire, etc.)and the system is professional-looking and of high quality.
Customer Review: Excellent Value Summary: 5 Stars
I was looking for a good DIY home security system without monitoring service and after research I found the SC-1000 to be the best value for the money.
Positives
-Setup was breeze, it was easier to follow Skylink installation video on Youtube than read the manual. The whole setup took about 30 minutes ( including mounting the door sensors).
- Farthest Door sensor was about 75 ft away from the central console but had no range issues.
- Alarm was LOUD! and the dialer was able to dial out through my VoIP line to my Mobile
Negatives
- Mouting stickers that come with the unit are useless and mine peeled off within a day ( and triggered the alarm). I replaced them with ones from a local hardware store.
- By default all sensors are programmed to dial out through the dialer, remove them and just leave the control panel. Thanks to all the other feedbacks I did this as part of my installation

Not sure how long the batteries are going to last on the sensors!
Overall excellent system and am very happy I bought this. I am planning on adding an additional motion sensor and a door/window sensor.
Customer Review: Peace of Mind Summary: 5 Stars
After some local break-ins I started looking for an alarm system. I went with this system because it was what I wanted, self monitering, expandable, and easy set up.
To me it looks as good of quality as expensive monitered systems, and as far as color I dont care if its pink with purple polkadots as long as it works, and it does. It doesnt take long to set up and with a little playing around with the different zones you can quickly get a feel for how easy it is to use. Set the sensors to certain zones for their particular use, such as instant on for garage, or outer doors for home mode, or away mode, its not hard to configure. If you dont want someone to have a delay time to smash the unit just set your exterior doors for an instant on zone on all modes, the alarm will make a burglar run off pretty quick in my opinion. I hated leaving my home unatended, especially when you see someone you dont know walking down your street and they saw you leave, now if my house is hit, I will get a call and I will call my trusted next door neighbors. And with my family here while I am away the panic buttons give me a better peace of mind knowing there is a little something extra to help protect them.
Customer Review: Works as Expected and Dialer works with VOIP service Summary: 4 Stars
I am truly pleased with the entire system. It was very easy to setup. Better than paying monthly fees to a monitoring service.
I am using it with additional motion sensor and SC-10 kit. We were able to program the SC-10 kit to the Skylink SC-1000 through the instructions provided for AA-433. We have AA-433D model (check the back of the SC-10 alarm). After programming to the control panel of SC-1001, we can arm/disarm using the remote and keying in the code.
When I bought the alarm, I was concerned whether the dialer would work with our VOIP service. After reading some suggestions provided in the couple of reviews here, we used a splitter on the VOIP gateway to run phone lines from both phone jacks in the dialer into the phone jack on the VOIP gateway and IT WORKED. We are using VOIP service through High speed internet through Cable though, not DSL. I am not sure if the quality is better that DSL. The quality of the voice on the dialer is good, just speak loudly when you first record your message.
Only dislike so far is that the instructions on how to program SC-10 to SC-1000 were not easily found. Instructions can be found here:
