Tools and Hardware Reviews of Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm SystemCustomer Review: Nice system Summary: 4 Stars
This is a very nice system for the DIYS people. You need to be a little bit technical when its time to do some advanced tinkering. The system does its supposed to do - secure the perimeter. I would not place the main unit near the door. Place it somewhere where the intruder can't see the light. It can easily be ripped of the wall and smashed in case. I would add an audio alarm add-on and install one indoor and one outdoor (its waterproof)- which I did. Also changed the master code and dont leave the deafault one, again for obvious reasons. The sound is loud and disorienting. It would definitely wake the whole house and freak out the intruder. Im still trying to figure out how to bypass the beeping sound when the alarm is tripped before the main siren goes off. I dont want to give an intruder time to find the main unit and breaking it. I want the siren to go off as soon as the alarm is tripped. I use the remote key to arm and disarm anyway. Its also easy to add-on. Since it is wireless, stock up on the batteries and test it once a month by using the chime mode. For the price you can't beat it. I've had the system for a month now with no problems and the best part - NO MONTHLY DUES.
Customer Review: easiest thing ever Summary: 5 Stars
this has to be the simplest thing to configure ever
I ended up buying the SC-1000, 100 & the 10 as well, I put the complete SC-1000 kit, as well as some parts from the other kit, the door / motion sensors and the extra siren in the house. Then the rest of it is going to our cottage and I programmed the remotes so it works on both :)
Someone mentioned the customer service was bad, i called and got an answer after 3 rings and the lady explained how I could setup the remotes to work on both systems, she even waited on the phone while I tested to make sure it worked. And she even spoke perfect english which is something unusual these days.
there are a few additional things that would be nice
1) network accessibility for monitoring / and to allow text messaging
2) multiple messages, as in zone 1, zone 2, fire, flood instead of the same message all the time and you have no clue what it means
3) a decent garage door opener that would also disable the alarm at the same time, (from what I read the garage door solution they have is terrible)
however for the cost you cant really complain about it
Customer Review: After 3 years, a great system Summary: 5 Stars
I just did our semi-annual walk around on our Skylink alarm system. The system is easy to install and program and works much better than I ever expected. It gives my wife great peace of mind. This is a very complete system and we are extremely happy with it. Programming requires the manual but the system is very flexible and does just about everything you could ever possibly want. We have had this system 3 years and we are very happy with it. The batteries in the door/window sensor last a very long time, I don't think I have yet had to replace one of those batteries. The motion sensor uses power constantly as you walk around your house (whether or not the system is armed) and its battery needs to be replaced every year or so. It conveniently chirps at you when its battery is low, so you always know when a new battery is needed.
One extremely minor gripe is that I had to put tiny labels on the remotes because it's very difficult to remember which button does what ("Home", "Away", "Off"). But this is a very minor quibble.
Highly recommended. I wish every do-it-yourself home product worked this well.
Customer Review: It sort of works. Summary: 2 Stars
I know it. I just know it! She tailed me! She stole my new phone charger! I take revenge! I buy this security system.
Let me put you into the story. See I broke up with my girlfriend over half-a-year ago. She has stalked me, she has taken over my private and public life. I know she now that she is trailing me.
So I buy this product, ships fast, very easy to install and I forgot to read the instructions. See the main problem I had was I thought it was like x-ray infrared Modern Warfare 2 type of things. So I stashed all of the motion detectors in the closet. The instructions say to put it out in the open where it can read motion, never said anything about infrared.
I go to take it off my wall and the things obliterate right there. RIGHT THERE MY 100 DOLLARS, THE LAST 100 DOLLARS THAT MY EX GAVE ME, THE ONLY MONEY I COULD USE TO GET THE LAST LAUGH ON HER IS GONE.
Afterwords, I get really bent out of shape as she will periodically go through my new house and take stuff and there is nothing I can do. I bet she even stole the Security system, let me check...
Yep! She did. What the...
Customer Review: Horribly outdated :( Summary: 2 Stars
This system is horribly outdated. When you look closely at the system you can tell that it was produced many years ago by its bulky and minimal design. The motion sensors work as promised. The window sensors are very difficult to install on doors, where they would be most useful. In order to get them to align door frame modification is usually necessary. The codes and even remote control are complicated. You basically have to have the manual in front of you in order to remember how to code the settings. The Dial-Alert suffers the most from the outdated product... could not get it to function correctly. A friend who knows alarm systems said that it probably could not complete the calls because I have DSL internet on the line and would have to purchase a second line for the Dial-Alert system. No thanks. The recording on the Dial Alert sounds horrible, its quiet, scratchy, and has heavy static. This alarm purchase was taken out of my rent for my home after a recent burglary. Had this not be the situation I would have returned the system immediately. Please, if you are looking for quality protection for you home, look somewhere else!!
