Tools and Hardware Reviews of Skylink SC-1000 Complete Wireless Alarm SystemCustomer Review: Mixed feelings Summary: 4 Stars
Overall this is a very simple product to install, however I've had two issues that I'm unable to fix.
1 - When installing one door/window sensor, I cannot get it to work (it's installed about 72ft away from the command panel).
2 - When programming the motion sensor, I'm unable to reprogram one to zone 3.
I'm reviewing the owner's manual to see if there's some step I've missed.
Other than that, it's very simple to set up, I would recommend for somebody looking to invest in security without any monthly fees. I would rate it 3 stars and not 4 (not sure how to change this).
One thing that I have to say, is that sometimes the motion sensors do not seem to work... I have the good habit of testing the alarm to ensure it works properly, and sometimes when walking into the monitored zone, it does not activate the alarm. I tried contacting Customer Service and I never heard back from them. I am considering replacing the system, since it is like playing russian rulet (you never know what you are going to get) and this is certainly not what I want in terms of security.
Customer Review: Love it and the piece of mind it brings Summary: 5 Stars
This is a very easy to set up system. Especially for the price! (If a fluffy, pregnant woman can do this, so can you!)
We have only had two issues with it and, to us, are very minor. #1 We have our phone number blocked and you cannot program the auto dialer to dial *60whatever to unblock it (it reads it as a pause in the dialing sequence). #2 We have one door we had to take the molding off and carve a space for the door sensor because the door is recessed and the two spacers they give you were not enough.
We also bought the Skylink SC-10 kit and they work together easily, though we did have to go online to skylink website to find directions on how to use the alarm that came with that just as an external siren.
I really like the feature where you can turn it "off" with a variation so the auto dialer calls out for help anyway if you are under duress. We have not had any false alarms after setup and we had even left our cat in once (but she's fat and lazy and may not have moved the whole time she was in).
Customer Review: Simple DIY System That Works Summary: 5 Stars
I used to be with ADT and paid a monthly fee. After moving to a smaller home, I decided to just set up the alarm system by myself. After surveying several systems, I found the Skylink SC-1000 to be the simplest yet cheapest that fit my needs.
First it's quite easy to set up. The tech support rep also helped a lot but then my questions were just because of my misunderstanding of the manual. I set up the whole thing over a weekend and tested it several times. It worked well. I even bought another system for my uncle.
Just a little tip here. Get a remote keypad so that you can hide both the auto dialer and the central control panel in your closet. And be sure to program both the keypad password and the central control panel password (they can be programmed to be different.)
I only hope they come out with a GSM module. And also, the door sensor has a wire coming out of the transmitter to the magnet. This is the only thing I don't like about the system.
Customer Review: Fun to set up! Some obvious faults Summary: 4 Stars
Actually unbeatable for the price, the key fob could have a few more functions. MOST IMPORTANT read the manual! There are many options and customizing the alarm "zones" is actually fun once you get the hang of it. You can also deactivare certain zones, if your at home, and change the alarm from instant to 30 seconds if your in the house. In my Townhouse, 30 seconds and they could be in my bedroom!.
So I made all zones instant alarm!
Many options, the negative: its sort of flimsy, its not a hard wired system obviously, if a burglar gets a hold of the keypad which has a siren built in, instead of seperate siren , all he has to do is smash it open, and alarm is dead. The answer buy a few more external sirens and place them in difficult to reach situations. I even converted a sturdy keybox, and drilled holes in the lid, to slow down any potential dirtbags. The motion detectors worked great, easy to use, I like them better than the magnetized door sensors, which are kind of big.
Customer Review: lots of bang for the buck! Summary: 4 Stars
It works!
lots of bells and whistles.
The alarm literally kills your ears when it goes off, it would be difficult to remain in the room with it going off, I do agree with the reviewer that said you need to hide the box though, cause all you would have to do is smash the thing, and that alarm would stop..
The only negative... the instructions were a little vague... be sure you are following the instructions for the particular control panel you are installing. They look very similar... but you figure it out quickly.
I would also suggest that you NOT install the control boxes to the wall until you have the system up and running, just lay 'em on the floor and then mount them after testing the stystem.
Also , no need to use templates, just use the double sided tape (included) and then used your back panel as a drill guide. I ended up moving mine several times and eventually thought it would be better to wait until everything checked out.
