Tools and Hardware Reviews of Skylink TS-101A Temperature SensorCustomer Review: Skylink TS-101A Temperture Sensor Comes Up Short Summary: 2 Stars
Just received the Skylink TS-101A, and am disappointed, as it comes up short when compared to the Amazon.com Webpage / Manufacturer's description for its' use and application. The intended application was to purchase a "stand-alone," programmable, temperature-monitoring unit that would sound-off when a pre-set temperature was surpassed; in short, let me know when equipment running in a very small computer and video room was getting too hot/or if its' Air Conditioner had failed. This type indoor application is well-within the product description and advertised capabilities for temperature range and features; and the unit even comes with a wired temperature sensor probe so you can run the probe through a wall (and keep the box and alarm in the adjacent hallway). This basic unit SHOULD solve basic heat monitoring and notifying needs if a room overheats, or as featured: monitor "...a green house, cottage, or livestock habitat." Not so....the included instructions cover only adding this "stand-alone" unit into other existing Skylink alarm equipment, remotes, sensors, keychain remotes, panels, etc. This devices' output, when self-triggered by a programmed over-temperature, is a single (LED) lamp blink, a pathetic barely-audible beep, and the click of an internal relay contact moving (once). For true stand-alone use, this monitor only works if hard-wired or used with secondary Skylink alarm dialer, panel, or alarm box). Additionally, the front panel has a RED, square button...with absolutely no explanation, printed instructions, illustrations, or notes for its use or benefit. Possibly this button is an over-ride control, or for testing, or even a reset or ????? Now I have to locate a hard-wired, latching alarm with reasonable sound output to use with this device; hopefully one that doesn't have to use a remote keychain transmitter, additional panel, 120 db alarm,or other dedicated add-on accessories. Trying to keep this project simple, but it's turning into more trouble than it's worth. Thinking of using a regular wall mounted heater thermostat and battery-powered bicyle horn instead of this.
In short, this isn't a stand-alone unit, in reality a single-pulse, battery-operated alarm system accessory, with poor instructions. It's not a stand-alone alarm device as described. Plan on puchasing this as an add-on to other existing equipment, or as part of a full alarm package at start-up; it is not a stand-alone alarm device as offered and as received. --Weatherbug.
