Tools and Hardware Reviews of Skylink WS-100/WS-100N Wireless Remote Control, Channel ACustomer Review: Excellent product! Summary: 5 Stars
Since I have a fountain in my back yard, I wanted something that would be able to switch the fountain on or off when I wanted. I also needed it to be remote controlled. I originally bought a remote control similar to this one on Ebay. It was a different brand. That one worked well for about 2 days. I was able to switch the fountain on or off about 50-60 feet away, even inside. But, for some reason, it decided to stop working as designed. It would only work if I was about 10 feet away. So, I decided to try another type. I came across this one on Amazon.com. Once I received it, I plugged it inline with the fountain's pump, and it has worked consistently every time. It will work with no obstruction to about 60-70 feet away. Inside through a wall, sometimes it will work sometimes not, cause there is a small obstruction in the way where I point the transmitter. But, it does work through walls as stated. Overall, I don't think you can get any better than this for the price! It was also cheaper than the one for sale on Ebay!
Customer Review: Solves a big problem Summary: 4 Stars
This wireless remote control has solved a big problem for us. We have outside stairs leading from our living floor to the garage area under the house. I wanted a light that could light the stairs as well as the outside storage area below. Since I needed about 300 watts to light the whole area, a dusk-to-dawn would waste too much power. So, I needed to be able to turn a light on and off from two different locations, upstairs and downstairs. Hiring an electrician to put in all the wiring normally required, plus sheetrock repair for the added switches would have been an expensive job.
This was a great solution. Two reasons why I didn't give it 5 stars: we have only had it for a month and I want to see how well this works for a year. Secondly, I needed just one unit with two remotes. I emailed Skylink and asked if I could buy 1 outlet and 2 remotes and they said no, so I had to buy two complete units. I think they would sell more if they offered a 2-remote package.
Customer Review: Good unit. Summary: 4 Stars
Ordered two of these from Amazon. Figured I may find a couple of uses for them. However, they are all on the same frequency. No way to change.
So, if you have two applications within 100-150' of each other, one will turn the other on and vice-versa.
No big deal as now I have one unit driving my alarm with two transmitters.
Another quirk I want to share with you is that the receiver (big box), must be mounted vertically on a wall with the mains jack (what you'll plug your device into) pointed down! So, I guess that means you cannot leave it laying on the floor (?).
My only guess for this requirement is that there is a mercury-whetted relay inside that needs the mercury at a certain point. Cannot hazard a guess of what may happen if mounted other than their requirements (?)
This would be a good thing for the mfg. to touch upon in their blog above.
Otherwise, good unit and a good value.
Customer Review: Good range for remote Summary: 5 Stars
Works every time with one push of button and inside home aiming out the window to the switch which is 45 feet and around side of the wood shed. I use it to turn off a small pump that pumps water out of rain barrel to a series of bamboo pipes that are split with water running from pump and back to barrel for a constant water feature for the local birds. I did leave it run 24 hours but decided the birds sleep so why run it. Also when it freezes I lose all the water in the 55 gal barrel which ends up as beautiful ice sculpture but then when thaws the birds have no water. Now when I know its going to be very cold I shut it down from the kitchen window rather than go out in the cold and pull the plug. I have ordered two more of them, another A channel and a B channel,I have a bird bath that has a pump in it too on the way to the fore mentioned pump so will not use the 24 hr timer I bought for that and put the A channel so both will be turned on with one remote.
Customer Review: Exactly the right item Summary: 5 Stars
I needed a method to control the lights in my backyard that were mounted on my shed. I couldn't find anything to do this until I stumbled across the Skylink. The plug on the lights are inside the shed about 50' away from the patio door. I bought the skylink on the hope it would work without my having to rewire the lights. I plugged the Skylink into the recepticle closest to the lights plug. I said a little prayer and plugged the lights into the Skylink. I walked back into the house pressed the remote control button and the lights came on. Since then, every time the button is pressed and the lights either come on or go off as needed. This ranks right up there with sliced bread for me. If you need a remote control for a power source, Skylink is the way to go. Just remember that there is a limit on the wattage it supports. Check your need and if its in limits, go for the Skylink. You won't be disappointed. I won't hesitate if I need another one.
