Tools and Hardware Reviews of Skylink WS-100/WS-100N Wireless Remote Control, Channel ACustomer Review: Great for outdoor decorations Summary: 5 StarsI purchased this so I could turn off Christmas inflatable decorations on windy days and still leave the other decorations lit. I could not mount it so it was placed on the ground under the inflatable in a ziplock baggie. We had no moisture problems. We did often need to hit the remote repeatedly to get it to turn on, but I'll attribute that to being under the decoration instead of mounted.
Customer Review: Almost "OK" - wait a second... Summary: 4 StarsThis requires a small 12 volt battery (many of these things do; I think It could have been made to operate with an easy-to-find 9v battery). The battery compartment of the remote has a flimsy lid and installing the battery between two metal retainer prongs had me get out my swiss army knife.
The main unit seems to be solidly constructed. It's not 100% solid sate -- you can hear a relay click when switching it on and off. It takes about a second to recover form an on OR off state. In other words, you must wait one second to turn it on again after it's been switched off. And vice versa.
Customer Review: Won't turn off! Summary: 1 StarsUnfortunately I ordered this product in July and did not get around to unpacking it until January. When I installed it I was pleased at first to see the light turn on. However, when I tried to turn it off, it stayed on--and on--and on. The remote has a red LED, so I knew I had the battery installed, but I checked to make sure it was installed correctly and then I tried a new battery. Instructions say to mount vertically with receptacle down, and that is exactly what I had done. I checked the voltage where I plugged it in to see if I had inadvertently damaged the unit with overvoltage, but it was 120 volts on the nose. If you buy one of these, try it out immediately so you can return it if it is defective.
Customer Review: Works great --Note "A" and "B" version Summary: 5 StarsThe remote control works quite well even around corners. Note you can order either the "A" or "B" frequency control pair --so you can have 2 separate installations in the same proximity. It would be nice however it they'd throw in an extra hand-held unit with each control --sort of like having a spare key or, in my case, needing to control the same device from 2 different locations and not wanting to have to carry the remote around all the time. I could buy another set, but that seems kind of extravagant. All in all, this seems like a well built device, and I'm very happy with it.
Customer Review: Big Disappointment Summary: 2 StarsI have purchased the product to turn on/off a device similar to a vacuum cleaner in the outdoor environment. The specification states the distance up to a 100 feet. I could not get it to work further than 45 feet. The remote control unit is very compact compared to other similar devices, but lacks the advertised range.
