Tools and Hardware Reviews of Skylink WT-433 Window/Door SensorCustomer Review: Replace the ugly magnetics! Summary: 3 Stars
Several of the reviews are absolutely correct when they stated that the WT-433 is unsightly. In addition, the magnet attached to the transmitter does not mount square on most door trims. So I replaced the door surface mounted magnets with a "Velleman HAA24 Round Reed Switch" (Normally closed switch, $3.99 at Frys). I had to drill a 3/8 dia hole in the top of the door and an opposing one in the top jam, and an intersecting larger hole above the horizontal trim so I could feed the transmitter wires up through to where I intended to mount the transmitter. The larger hole was for wire storage, as both the transmitter and reed switch have captive wires and a service loop is needed to splice the wires together. Drilling a new hole in the mounting plate, and rerouting the wires through it, I was able to hide the wires, which otherwise showed out the front of the transmitter. Checked out, it performs perfectly and looks great.
Another problem I had was with the motion sensors - they are very sensitive even with the lower setting. Before I changed my front door to a magnetic reed switch (see above), I had covered the front door with a motion sensor because I did want the Skylink supplied magnetics screwed to my oak front door and trim. After a half dozen times being awakened in the early morning hours and many, many emails to "Technical Suport" and playing multiple chairs with the sensors, I narrowed the problem to light coming in from outside of the house. It could be the automatic porch light or street light being turned off, my driveway light being turned on by some cat, or someone using my driveway to turn around with their head lights on in the early morning which was causing the false alarms. Once I moved the motion sensor to another location and installed the reed switch on the door, the problem went away.
