I thought the idea was that if my computer was on so were the peripherals (the printer, speakers, etc). This product is not working for me at all. My "Control" (computer) and my "Uncontrolled" are on but I can't get any of the "Controlled" peripherals to understand this. My "Controlled Outlets" are not on and I've turned the "sensitivity meter" every which way and shut down and rebooted. Can't print, can't hear my speakers.
I heard a spark of power and then it disappeared. Was that a surge? I'm returning this thing. What a waste of time on a nifty idea.
The 800 number in the packaging is No Longer in Service.

The Smart Strip is worth every penny! I bought two, one for the TV and components and one for the computer and components. There is little setup involved, only real decision is figuring out which unit to make the switching outlet; in my case it was the TV and computer. When the TV or computer is turned on, the autoswitching turns on the other components. This is the best part of the Smart Strip; simple and easy. These units have worked very well. The Smart Strip can be seen working with the indicator lights of whether the strip is operating and whether the switched outlets are operating. I have one for my TV and another for my computer. Easy to set up. There is a master outlet that controls a series of switched outlets. So, for example if my computer is in the master outlet and is on, the printers, scanner, extra monitors plugged into the switched outlets become live. Once I shut down my computer, all those peripherals turn off. What could be easier than that to reduce trickle energy usage? There are also 3 "always on" outlets that you can use to bypass the master outlet. So on the TV, you can plug in your DVR into the live outlet so even if TV is off, the DVR remains on to do your recordings.

I set up (follow the directions--simple, but must be done right) and used this item for only a day but so far it could be my best, wisest purchase. Everything attached to my PC and Mac that is not needed when my host computer shuts down--is automatically turned off with it. All those transformers and blinking lights are off till needed. Only regret: I did not know of this product sooner and already purchased standard surge protectors for the rest of the house. Time will tell...but we like it so much already! If all goes well, this product will replace all other surge protectors.Customer Review: Stopped working after two months, company will not do anything about it.

This worked fine until almost exactly two months. Now, all that works is the master socket and the "always on" sockets. This is now just an overpriced regular power strip, only with less usable sockets. The packaging made it look like there is a lifetime guarantee no matter where you purchase it, but the company will not honor it unless you buy directly from them. They will not even offer technical assistance with the product. I'll just use a $5 power strip and turn the strip's switch off. You get the same money savings in energy, and it just takes a few more seconds to do.
