Tools and Hardware Reviews of Smart Strip LCG3 Energy Saving Surge Protector with Autoswitching Technology, 10-OutletCustomer Review: Stopped working after two months, company will not do anything about it. Summary: 1 Stars
This worked fine until almost exactly two months. Now, all that works is the master socket and the "always on" sockets. This is now just an overpriced regular power strip, only with less usable sockets. The packaging made it look like there is a lifetime guarantee no matter where you purchase it, but the company will not honor it unless you buy directly from them. They will not even offer technical assistance with the product. I'll just use a $5 power strip and turn the strip's switch off. You get the same money savings in energy, and it just takes a few more seconds to do.
Customer Review: Easy to Use - No Problems Summary: 5 Stars
I have used this product for 6 months now and have never had any problems. It is easy to setup and works as advertised. I have my TV plugged into the controlling outlet, Tivo plugged into the always on outlet, and Xbox 360, PS3, receiver, and subwoofer plugged into the automatically switched outlets. When I turn off the TV, the automatically switched outlets power down just like the electronics were unplugged from the wall. The TV remains in standby mode and the Tivo remains powered on and able to record during the night. No setup required. Worked right out of the box.
Customer Review: Worked right out of the box Summary: 5 Stars
I have an xbox 360, ps3, denon receiver, dish network dvr, and a philips 52" lcd tv hooked up to this.
Installation was simple. I am using my tv as the control device. If the tv is off, I will not be using the xbox, ps3, or denon receiver. The dish network dvr is plugged into the "always hot" outlet.
Everything just works. Once I turn the tv off, everything that is controlled turns off as well. I did not have to tweak the power settings on the power strip at all. I have heard that the xbox 360 is a power vampire so I'm glad I found this.
Customer Review: Didn't work with my Mac Mini Summary: 3 Stars
I think the idea behind this product is a good one, but evidently it can't work with all devices. No matter how I set the sensitivity dial, this thing either wouldn't turn on my peripherals when my Mac was powered on, or wouldn't turn them off when I powered off the Mac. I strongly suspect that this is due to the fact that a Mac Mini draws very little power itself, so the Smart Strip wasn't able to register the on/off difference. If that theory is correct, then this product can't be expected to work with a laptop or other small and low-wattage computers.
Customer Review: Would have been great... if it worked. Summary: 2 Stars
Like many of the other reviewers, I had problems with the outlets not turning off. The first time or two they would work fine and I thought that everything was ok, but after leaving the room for a while, they would magically be back on when I returned. I have my HDTV plugged into the outlet, and the power it is using when on should dwarf the power it uses while off, so there's no reason this power strip shouldn't work. Either a lot of the adjusting screws don't work, or this is a really bad power saving strip.
Can't recommend this.
