Customer Review: Two-handed operation kills the buzz.

I chose this driver because its geared action gives 4 turns of the screw to 1 turn of the handle. It's for low-torque applications, such as opening battery compartments of my child's electronic toys -- my purpose for this screwdriver. (You can lock the driver for high-torque needs.)
In order to get this geared action, you hold the collar near the driver end, and turn the handle with the other hand. This is where the device lets you down. It seems inevitable that the bit will come out of position off the screw, especially with the small screws found on batt compartments. You'll have to stabilize the toy, for example, between your legs. ('Danger'?)
I'm now eying the Black & Decker 6 Volt Alkaline Screwdriver AS6CLRS 130 RPM ($9 at WalMart), although that one takes 4 AAs. The SmartPro Speed Driver doesn't need batteries, and that fact keeps the 'thrill' alive. With all my son's battery-powered toys, I predict that I'll be changing batts out of screw-secured compartments often. I don't want to worry about whether my screwdriver has power.
Great Neck 952DE 4-in-1 Stubby Ratcheting Screwdriver w/ 4-Bits or any similar will do, and will cost you much less.

The Speed Driver 13 Piece Geared Screwdriver Set is a unique, patented screwdriver that allows you to work 4 times faster than with ordinary screwdrivers in low torque applications. The Speed Driver is actually 2 screwdrivers in one: (1) a high speed, low torque screwdriver operating at a speed of 4 turns of the screw for every 1 turn of the handle, and (2) a standard screwdriver for high torque applications operating at a speed of 1 turn of the screw for every 1 turn of the handle. The patented switching mechanism allows on the fly switching between the 4:1 speed mode and the 1:1 standard mode. The Speed Driver has a ratcheting feature with three working positions; forward, reverse and locked. The cushioned handle is chemical resistant and has a convenient storage device that holds up to 12 extra bits.
