Customer Review: It's a little large for some installations

I used two of these in a double gang galvanized surface mount switch box. They were too large to fit properly. In order to clear the wire nuts and other switch box clutter, I had to get a 3/4" switch box extension and even then I had to file down about 1/16" off the edge of the square hole in order to get two modules to fit side-by-side. The location of the ground wire was also poorly located because the location either prevented one of the modules from fitting flush or on the other module, the ground wire was outside of the box. Removing the ground wire wouldn't have helped much, since it is the "lump" where the ground wire is attached that keeps the flange of one module from fitting flush. Because one module didn't fit flush, the cover plate wouldn't fit flush either. If I tightened the cover plate, the toggles on the module wouldn't move freely and would hang up and not return to center where they need to be when the light is not being turned on or off. I worked around this by leaving the cover plate screws loose.
Other than the above, it looks to be a well made product. They even labeled all the wires (hot, neutral, load and even ground). SmartHome is a good company to work with. When purchasing previous items I found their tech support to be very good. They seem to be really interested in customer satisfaction. I had and X10 compatibility problem with other Insteon modules that was never solved. Since switching completely to Insteon I haven't had any problems. (I haven't tried all of the Insteon modules though.)
In summary, make sure you have enough room for the largish size of this module and think twice if you want X10 compatibility.
