Customer Review: My preferred insteon control

This is now my goto switchlinc. It allows just about everything you want in home lighting. Its fast and reliable.
I have 5 of them and have just about replaced all the old (7 years) x10 based ones with insteon.
Remember with these switches you need a neutral wire (Those with old houses watch out).
I have tried many of the 'homelinc' packages to make configuring and changing these easier. They are expensive and should be free
with purchase of this stuff. Smarthome is NOT that smart.
Competes with z-wave. Make sure you have enough access points (IE dual band) to act as repeaters.
System works very well and is very expandable.
This 6 button can be changed to an 8 just by changing the faceplate. The 8's are not obviouse for visitors, they tend not to read the
buttons, even the custom etched label kit. Just stay with the 6's on your 'primary' load.
I love to be able to say all off and leave. No checking all the rooms.
Do one room at a time so you know what you are doing.
Count your table lamps, wall switches and the hall outside the room. Add a table top or remote controller, or use your phone.
In my living / dining room I have two ceeling lights (that were both on 3 way switches, but I removed the 2nd switch in favor of the keypad linc)
I have 4 lamplinc's and a table top controller, They can be all on/off or scenes or turned all off from the switch by the front door.
If they gave good software away, I'd give this 5 stars. If you are prepared to spend 5* $49 for lamplincs, 3*69 for the controllers and $200 for the software.
This is an easy to use and impresses the heck out of the neighbors.
Stay well away from the NON - insteon x10.
Also buy it with the protection plan. The switch links blow at the rate of 5% a year. 20 devices, you are going to loose one a year.
