Tools and Hardware Reviews of Smith & Wesson SWHRT9B Black HRT Boot Knife

Customer Review: Very good knife for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

Excellent knife. The steel isn't the greatest quality, but you are paying twenty dollars or less for it. It doesn't come razor sharp out of the box but with a little work from a cheap sharpener it's getting pretty scary. The handle maneuvers very well and allows you to quickly change gripping methods. Handle material works well and provides a solid, non-slip grip. Knife is pretty well balanced, and yes, you can throw it. (just don't be an moron and throw it at a tree, it's not built for that). The sheath is what it is, alright leather with a decent clip (sheath is not very concealable, just a note). It is twenty dollar knife after all, they're making their money somewhere. I'm not going to complain much if the sheath is just ok. All in all, this is an affordable, well built blade. If you're thinking about buying it, buy it!

Customer Review: For the price... WOW
Summary: 5 Stars

This knife was cheap enough that I didn't even buy it for any specific reason... I think this knife is such a great value that anyone should own one! While it seems to be an extremely well-made product, it looks rough enough that I won't cry if I drop it on the ground. In fact, I would probably even use it for practice as a throwing knife! The handle grip is not slippery at all, the blade is sharp as hell, and very easy to sharpen once it gets dull. The sheet is made completely out of leather, with a firm metal clip to hold it to your boot. The clip will certainly keep the knife in place unless you pull it off on purpose. The clip that holds the knife in the sheath is quite secure, but also easy to open and close with one finger.

This knife is a great all-around survival/outdoors knife! Totally recommended!

Customer Review: Awesome Boot Knife, Well Proportioned
Summary: 4 Stars

I have several Smith and Wesson Knives, and this one is very nice for the money. The blade is well honed, and extremely sharp on both sides. I must confess, I have little practical experience with it! I have it in my Explorer for emergency use. However, the high quality of the blade and ergonomic design do make me feel confident if I ever should have to use it. The name does imply defensive purposes, Black HRT Boot Knife. HRT stands for Hostage Rescue Team. The Scabbard is pretty nice as well, it has a metal clip for your belt or your cowboy boots, and it is a perfect size to go on your belt or in your boot. The only reason I would downgrade this knife from 5 stars to 4 is the grip. It could be a hair thicker. I would feel very comfortable overall in any situation that I needed a sharp, strong knife.

Customer Review: Good knife but sheath could be better.
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall it is a good knife for the price. The painted blade could be better. On the edges of the blade some paint was ground off in the sharpening process, so it looks sloppy. Being left handed, I try to look for ambidextrous sheathes. This is not one of them. It is clearly designed for a right handed person. Also, you would assume a boot knife would have a strap of some sort for your leg, but all the sheath has is a firm clip. I don't know what to clip it to. A sock, perhaps? Some good things would be that it is well balanced and has a nice weight to it. For all of the people that complain about knife sharpness out of the box, have you ever heard of a sharpening steel even a diamond sharpener? Don't get me wrong, it is worth it for the price, just don't expect to be able to put it in your boot.

Customer Review: A True Craftsman Made This Knife
Summary: 5 Stars

Even if you already have a few knifes, this one is worth getting. In overall appearance this blade and scabbard are even better than I was expecting. I sense that whoever designed these put a lot of thought and pride into both. The hard rubber-like handle is an usually comfortable fit for my hand, which is more the hand of an office worker than someone who does heavy labor. And the blade is somewhat like a shortened version of a Sykes Fairborn dagger, but even better in the way its painted surface is already sharpened, so you won't have to risk scratching it as I did when I tried to improve the edge on my Sykes Fairborn. I was also pleased to realize that there's a convenient lanyard hole in the handle. Smith & Wesson was willing to put their name on this, and they were right to do so.
