Tools and Hardware Reviews of Solaris SP21HB 21-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Self-Propelled FWD Bag/Mulch/Side Discharge Cordless Lawn MowerCustomer Review: Sent it back ... Summary: 1 Stars
Great idea! I think they did a very good job with the overall concept, but lost it with the choice of the deck. It is so weak, in fact, that the wheels seem to have trouble supporting it, and maneuvering it around caused the whole thing to flex enough to make me nervous. With the front wheel drive, I found myself fighting to keep it going in a straight line, and without "helping it along" (a lot!) it really wanted to dig down and chew up the lawn. While I really like the idea behind it, this one is simply too much more work to mow with than my old Honda.
It would probably be an excellent choice for a small, level patch of grass, but in order to use it for anything more demanding it really should have a deck that is far sturdier. As I said, I think the concept is great. I really hope they will continue to improve the design, and that the batteries will keep getting better and lighter.
Customer Review: Good for going Green Summary: 3 Stars
Good mower if you don't mind spending money to be green. Easy to assemble out of the box, fold up handle and charge batteries. I debated about rear wheel or front wheel assist drive. It is nice to have the auto wheel traction however it can be difficult to push and control. It really depends on your yard and the topography you mow. While it works fine be warned it is heavy to maneuver. The rechargeable batteries are very heavy and heavy to push around in the mower. While the drive assist helps with this it is also cumbersome to pull the mower backwards or to turn in tight spots. I find the batteries charge easily and last 3 cuts of my yard before charging again.
Pros- Green, cordless, no gas. Cons- Heavy, expensive, can be challenging to maneuver. It's a good workout.
Customer Review: It's cool lawn gadget Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know why people are complaining about such trivial things. This lawnmower is the first generation electric battery powered lawnmower. I'm glad they saved the money on wheels (Wah! they're plastic) and included 2 batteries, an external charger or an option top plug it in directly to the mower, a bag, a bypass clipping shooter (or the option to mulch), and it drives itself around! This thing's great. I have 3 grassy lawns (small-medium) and it is still fully charged when I finish. If you want function, buy this thing ($299 at HD), if you want a pretty Black and Decker with aluminum wheels and a non swappable battery-do it. Black and Decker makes a great toaster, I'm sure their lawnmower is grand.
Customer Review: lawnmower Summary: 5 Stars
I love this lawnmower! I have been using it for several weeks now. It is quiet, cuts very well. The battery charge will last me for about an hour of mowing. My lawn is slightly better than a farm field. It's uneven with dips and squirrel holes all over it and this mower handles it very well. I love the fact that it is self propelled. And living in an area that freezes hard every winter having removable batteries to bring indoors is a huge benefit. I like too that I can charge them either in the mower or oustide of the mower. I love that it mulches the grass so no piles or rows of mown grass to deal with. I don't find it to be heavy either. I would recommend it to anyone.
Customer Review: Solaris "PHOOEY" Summary: 1 Stars
Solaris SP21HB 21-Inch 24 Volt Cordless Self Propelled FWD Bag/Mulch/Side Discharge Cordless Lawn Mower
Very excited when I received the mower. Did not last very long. After a 24 hr. charge, tried for an hour to make it go. Disgusted I called the manufactuer and get some input. After a rep had to read a list of "TRY THIS", and 2hours of frustration and taking off components, I decided if the factory doesn't check to see if it runs before they send it to me, they could have it back to do their own trouble shooting. "REAL LEMON"!
