Tools and Hardware Reviews of Soleus Air CFM-25E 25-Pint Dehumidifier with Humidistat

Customer Review: Everything I Needed
Summary: 5 Stars

With a damp lower level, I needed something this summer to keep the humidity out while not becoming a major distraction. Larger dehumidifiers did the job but were heavy and loud. The Soleus Air dehumidifier caught my eye as a way of getting some of the benefits of the larger dehumidifiers, while not having to deal with its disadvantages.

I was pleasantly surprised to see how well this product performed. First, it sucks the moisture out of the air like a champ. Running for a few hours a day, I was emptying the tank once a week. The moisture downstairs has subsided signifigantly and the product works as advertised.

Sound wise is another area I was thoroughly impressed. While it's not "whisper quiet", it is quiet enough that you can function normally in the same room as it. You can even sleep with it running without it having too much effect. I'd measure it's noise to that of a medium sized fan.

Overall it's everything I was hoping for out of a dehumidifier. It removes the moisture at a reasonable noise level. It's efficient and most important of all, portable. I can carry it from room to room or to different parts of the house with ease. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a furnished basement looking to eliminate some unneeded moisture while not disrupting your daily lives.

Customer Review: soleus dehumidifier 25 pint portable
Summary: 5 Stars

I have the 25 pint soleus dehumidifier for a month now and I haven't had any problems with it!
It does what it is suppose to do. Every 2 weeks I clean the filter, and I empty the water tray, every 2 days before the red light comes on because I want to see how much water will be in the tank. I have alot. I use it in my unused bedroom that is cooler than the other rooms and I moved it around to the other rooms for a day to see which room will get the most water!
I am very happy with my soleus!I bought from AMAZON and it was shipped when they said it would be! No problems!!

In the basement I bought LG 75 pints dehumidifiers (2)I have a large basement. and those are doing a great job also! I bought them at home depot because they were there at the time I was!
they also had a 5 year warranty.
I was going crazy reading good reviews and bad reviews and really was undecided as I did not want problems. So I took a chance with the soleus 25 pint since more people bought them according to the reviews then of the other dehumidifiers listed! I bought the LG dehumidifiers because my husband was with me and said get them it has a 5 year warranty and he is not going to shop or hear any more about dehumidifiers!! so I did!!!

Customer Review: Still Extremely Poor Customer Service!
Summary: 1 Stars

A reviewer wrote in 2006 in some detail about the unresponsiveness of this company in regard to customer service. Three years later, nothing has changed. First of all, when you phone customer service the likelihood is that you won't get through. You'll be put in the call waiting loop for awhile, and then, after 5-10 minutes you'll be told that the number is unavailable and to leave a message. When you leave a message, don't spend too much energy on it--because if your experience matches mine no one is going to call you back anyway.

I'm still not sure if my unit is working the way it's supposed to. It can't get the humidity in a 9'x15'x 20' room down to 50 percent humidity, which doesn't seem right. After putting up with this for a few days I bought (also available on Amazon) a Frigidaire 50 pint dehumidifier (therefore with twice the dehumidifying capability) for a few dollars less. I plugged it in and within an hour the room was at the desired 50 percent humidity. This is clearly a) a friendlier company to do business with and b) a better product. Avoid the Soleus; I'm returning mine. Frigidaire 50-pint Dehumidifier

Customer Review: Product OK but with Problems, Company Terrible
Summary: 2 Stars

I've had this dehumidifier for two years. It has worked well, but I have given it two stars because of the problems I've had.

One problem is that there is no way to evaluate its energy efficiency. I've asked the company several times for figures on the energy required to remove a certain amount of water from the air, and have never gotten a response.

In the unit's first 12 hours of operation, it removed 1.1 liters of water in a room with a temperature of 57 degrees, and reduced the humidity from 77% to 53%. It used 2.63 KWH of electricity to accomplish that, giving an efficiency of .42 liters/KWH. This does not compare well with the efficiencies of EnergyStar rated dehumidifiers (typically 1.5 liters/KWH), but I realize that this number is strongly influenced by temperature. Without the company's help, you have no idea whether this dehumidifier is an energy hog.

Before I bought it, I asked whether it was an "EnergyStar" appliance. The tech representative told me that it was -- that turned out to be false.

The other problem is that after a year or so of operation, the coils get coated with dust. The dust cannot be easily removed unless you cut off the grill that covers them.

Customer Review: Beware avoid this company
Summary: 1 Stars

I, like others here bought this unit after reading all of the great reviews. Unfortunately, after receiving it yesterday and leting it run over night it not produce a single drop of water. I have called the Soleus International 800 number twice and left messages with no response.

12/16/06 UPDATE: I finally received a returned phone call from the manufacturer ---two and half months after I called them!! The person who called me was extremely rude. Here is how the conversation went: rep:"You called about a problem with one of our products?" me:"Yes--but that was over two months ago" rep:"I know that--I have the call log in front of me--are you having a problem or not?!" Me: "Well, no, I returned it after".....CLICK the person hangs up on me. This is without doubt the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I am amazed a business can survive by treating their customers this way---just horrible! Hopefully Amazon will dump all of these defective pieces of junk back on these jerks.

Nothing but the best service from Amzazon though. They quickly took the product back at their expense and sent me another one with two day delivery. Unfortunately, that one was defective also and had to be returned.
